Soundgarden demand social media passwords from Vicky Cornell

The surviving members of Soundgarden are demanding Vicky Cornell release control of the band’s social meda accounts in a new court filing in Washington state.

According to Billboard, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Ben Shepherd and their business manager Rit Venerus have requested a US District Court judge order Chris Cornell’s widow to hand over the passwords or include a final posting stating "Soundgarden has temporarily suspended its official social media accounts due to pending litigation."

The band members claim Vicky has locked them out of their social media accounts – including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, YouTube, Snapchat, Tumblr, Top Spin and Pinterest, as well as Soundgarden's official website – and changing all the passwords.

In the March 25 court filing in a U.S. District Court, Soundgarden claim – despite repeated requests for access – that Vicky has been "holding hostage the login information" since litigation between the two parties over control of unreleased hris Cornell recordings began in 2019.

The group states that their former management company handed over the passwords to Vicky upon their termination, and that not only are their social accounts "in a state of neglect," but that Vicky is identifying herself as "Soundgarden" and has removed fan comments and posted images and comments to the Soundgarden social media pages.

News of the social media control battle comes just days after a federal judge recommended the court toss out two of Vicky’s six claims against the remaining Soundgarden members as they battle various issues since the 2017 death of Chris Cornell after he took his own life in a Detroit hotel room while on tour with the band.

A hearing on the band's request is set for April 16; learn more about the latest court filing at billboard.com.

Soundgarden were among the nominees under consideration for entry into the 2020 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame; the Seattle band failed to garner enough music industry support to be inducted on their first nomination.

Clutch launch vinyl reissue series with Blast Tyrant album

Clutch are launching a limited-edition series of vinyl reissues this spring with the June release of their 2004 classic, “Blast Tyrant.”

The “Clutch Collector’s Series” will see four albums reimagined and individually curated by a band member, starting with drummer Jean-Paul Gaster.

"I worked with the album's original artist Chon Hernandez to create a new look and feel for the 'Clutch Collector's Series' release of 'Blast Tyrant'," explains Gaster. "Chon did an amazing job drawing the 'Blast Tyrant' to look 20 years older and wiser. We selected new colors for the jacket, sleeves, and vinyl to make a completely new package.”

The album has been remastered and is manufactured on 180-gram colored vinyl. The gatefold jacket is printed on metalized polyester paper and embossed with the official “Clutch Collector's Series” seal. The double-LP set is sleeved in extra heavy stock paper and includes a numbered insert autographed by the band.

The Maryland band’s sixth studio set featured the rock radio single, “The Mob Goes Wild”, and live track staples like “The Regulator”, “Cypress Grove” and “Profits Of Doom”, among others.

The “Blast Tyrant” vinyl reissue is limited to 5,000 units worldwide.

The Maryland outfit’s most recent studio album is 2018’s “Book Of Bad Decisions.”

The Eagles will release “The Millennium Concert” on vinyl for the first time as a standalone package on April 2.

The 2LP set delivers a dozen tracks from the band’s December 31, 1999 show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which featured 29 tunes from the group’s extensive catalog.

Cream announce vinyl debut of Goodbye Tour show Live At The Forum

Cream will release the debut vinyl edition of their 1968 concert recording, “Live At The Forum”, on April 23.

A series of tracks from an October 19, 1968 show at the famed Los Angeles venue were originally included on the band’s 1969 album, “Goodbye”, and the full performance finally surfaced last year on the four-CD set, “Goodbye Tour Live 1968.”

Now, the first standalone vinyl offering of The Forum event will be made available as a limited-edition 2LP blue vinyl set that presents all 9 songs from the stop on the group’s farewell tour.

The record was produced by Bill Levenson, with Kevin Reeves mastering the tapes from the original 1968 analog mix reels.

With Cream, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton set the template for not only the 'supergroup' but also the "power trio."

"Cream was a shambling circus of diverse personalities who happened to find that catalyst together,” says Clapton. “Any one of us could have played unaccompanied for a good length of time. So you put the three of us together in front of an audience willing to dig it limitlessly, we could have gone on forever…. And we did….just going for the moon every time we played."

Cream reunited to perform at their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1993, and the trio would regroup again for a series of concerts in 2005 that resulted in a live recording from London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Bruce died of liver disease in 2014 at the age of 71, while Baker passed away in 2019.

David Gilmour performs acoustic version of On An Island

David Gilmour is sharing video of an acoustic performance of the title track to his 2006 album, “On An Island.”

Accompanied by his daughter Romany on harmony vocals, the Pink Floyd guitarist delivered the song during the April 23 edition of the livestreamed series the Von Trapped Family, which mixes music and literature with discussions during the ongoing pandemic.

“On An Island” marked Gilmour’s first solo release in 22 years; supported by a 6-month series of live performances, the project earned the rocker his first solo UK No.1 album when it debuted atop the charts in his homeland while also delivering his first solo US Top 10 set when it peaked at No. 6.

Gilmour and Pink Floyd will release “Live At Knebworth 1990” on April 30; the package features the band’s headline show at the star-studded Silver Clef Winners concert at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire.

Pink Floyd released their final album, “The Endless River”, in 2014.

Allman Brothers Band stream Live At Great Woods 1991 reissue

The Allman Brothers Band are streaming their newly-reissued concert video, “Live At Great Woods September 6, 1991.”

Filmed for a Japanese TV special 9/6/1991 and issued on VHS and LaserDisc in 1992, the original 2014 DVD release incorporated interview segments into the songs, but this remastered version – with the rights recently being returned to the group – delivers the performance in full.

At the time, the band was touring in support of their newly-released “Shades Of Two Worlds” album, and the outdoor show featured the lineup of founding members Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Jaimoe and Butch Trucks plus Warren Haynes, Allen Woody and Marc Quinones.

“Live At Great Woods” is now available on DVD and digitally, with individual audio and video tracks available digitally.

The set is being reissued in sync with the Allman Brothers Band’s 52nd anniversary, following their formation in Jacksonville, FL in March of 1969 before relocating to Macon, GA.

The iconic group performed their final show at New York’s Beacon Theatre on October 28, 2014.

In the years following the farewell concert, a pair of original members have died: drummer Butch Trucks committed suicide in January of 2017 while singer and keyboardist Gregg Allman passed away from liver cancer four months later.

The 8th annual event – which celebrates the talent and creativity of the Roblox community of creators and players – saw the duo of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher appear as avatars for their three-song set, which included their 2014 track, “Figure It Out”, and 2020’s “Trouble’s Coming” before closing with “Limbo” from the forthcoming album “Typhoons.”

Judge updates Vicky Cornell lawsuit against Soundgarden

A federal judge in Washington state is recommending the court toss out two of Vicky Cornell’s six claims against the remaining members of Soundgarden in the latest update to a legal battle initiated by singer Chris Cornell’s widow on behalf of his estate in December of 2019.

Among the issues presented in the case, Vicky claims the Seattle band has been withholding royalties from her in an effort to gain access to vocal tracks for seven songs the singer recorded in his personal studio in Florida, while alleging that there was never any explicit agreement that the material was recorded for Soundgarden.

According to Billboard, a report filed by U.S. District Judge Michelle Peterson determined that there wasn’t evidence that the band was improperly withholding “hundreds of thousands of dollars” of Chris’s royalties from her.

Soundgarden had previously argued that the disputed funds are owned by the band’s partnership, and that under Washington law that partnership continues to legally own the funds until there is a distribution by a partner vote.

Peterson did not issue a finding on Soundgarden’s “alternative argument” that Chris Cornell became dissociated from the partnership when he passed; they argued that because the band never had a written band agreement, Washington general partnership law therefore governs their dispute, and that under that law, they are only obliged to provide a buyout offer to his estate after receiving a formal written buyout demand.

Last month, Vicky launched a separate lawsuit over the terms of a buyout price for her stake in the band on behalf of the estate while asking a federal judge to determine the value of her late husband’s interest in the group.

As for Vicky’s claim that Soundgarden business manager Rit Venerus breached his duty to look after her best interests, Peterson found that Venerus was merely a go-between for Vicky and the band and not her advisor.

“The magistrate’s recommendation was based solely on her subjective and un-adopted opinion that additional facts must be added to our client’s complaint, and we intend to amend our client’s complaint to include those facts,” said Vicky’s attorney Marty Singer. “Most importantly, the magistrate’s recommendation has zero impact on the significant claims against Soundgarden and its band members, who have sought to trample on Chris Cornell’s rights by unlawfully asserting ownership over his vocal recordings and by depriving his wife and children of millions of dollars that the band members want to keep for themselves.”

Peterson’s report will now be sent to the case’s presiding judge, Robert S. Lasnik, who will make the final decision.

Learn more about the case at billboard.com.

Cornell took his own life at the age of 52 in a Detroit hotel room in the early hours of May 18, 2017 following a Soundgarden show in the city.

Neil Young shares 1971 performance of Helpless

Neil Young is sharing video of a performance of “Helpless” from his newly-released 1971 solo concert recording and film, “Young Shakespeare.”

Written by the rocker and originally recorded by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young on their 1970 album, “Déjà Vu”, the tune is among a dozen songs Young delivered at the Shakespeare Theater in Stratford, CT while on tour in support of “After The Gold Rush.”

The event took place just three days after a legendary show at Toronto’s Massey Hall (released officially in 2007).

“[Producer] John Hanlon and I both feel Shakespeare is superior to our beloved Massey Hall,” explains Young. “A more calm performance, without the celebratory atmosphere of Massey Hall, captured live on 16mm film. Young Shakespeare is a very special event. To my fans, I say this is the best ever. Young Shakespeare is the performance of that era. Personal and emotional, for me, it defines that time.”

Recorded for broadcast on German TV, the footage has not been made publicly available until now.

“Young Shakespeare” is available on vinyl, CD while a stand-alone DVD of the concert will be available exclusively through The Greedy Hand Store at Neil Young Archives.

A Deluxe Box Set Edition includes vinyl, CD, and the DVD, while fans who purchase the CD, LP or Box set from the NYA Greedy Hand Store will also receive free hi-res digital audio downloads from the Xstream Store at NYA.

Pink Floyd share Wish You Were Here from Live At Knebworth 1990

Pink Floyd are sharing audio of a performance of their 1975 classic, “Wish You Were Here”, from the forthcoming package, “Live At Knebworth 1990.”

The title track to the band’s ninth album was one of seven songs featured at the star-studded Silver Clef Winners concert at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire, where they headlined before 120,000 fans alongside Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Dire Straits, Genesis, Cliff Richard and Tears For Fears.

Originally broadcast globally via MTV, the event was in aid of the Nordoff-Robbins music therapy charity, with profits going towards setting up the performing arts BRIT School near London.

“The Knebworth Concert was a defining moment in the music industry’s commitment to Nordoff Robbins, the BRIT Trust and the concept of the BRIT School,” explains David Munns, Chairman of Nordoff Robbins. “What a fantastic day it was, culminating in this brilliant performance by Pink Floyd. The money raised allowed the BRIT School to come into being and allowed Nordoff Robbins to significantly expand its service.

"Knebworth will go down in history as one of those great moments and the music industry should be very proud of what it achieved.”

"This show captures the band right at the peak after ‘The Joker’, and in the middle of ‘Fly Like An Eagle’ and ‘Book Of Dreams’, a stream of hits,” says Miller. “We decided to call it Breaking Ground because that's exactly what we were doing."

Due May 14, the set from Miller’s archives has been newly mixed and mastered by the guitarist and his veteran audio engineer Kent Hertz.

“Breaking Ground” will be available in multiple formats, including digital, CD, and 2LP black vinyl; while a live concert video featuring the full performance will be available to stream on The Coda Collection on Amazon Prime Video.

Queen revisit landmark 1974 Rainbow concerts

Queen are revisiting their landmark series of 1974 concerts at London’s Rainbow Theatre in the second episode of their new weekly feature, “The Greatest.”

Queen first headlined the venue on March 31 while on the road behind “Queen II.”

“We’d done our support tour and then promoter Mel Bush came to us – he was a pretty top promoter at the time – and he said ‘I think you guys can headline the next tour’, and we were surprised,” recalls Brian May. “I remember thinking ‘Wow, that’s very quick’, because normally you would support a few acts and build a following, and then you would go on your headline tour.

“But he said ‘No, I feel you can do it, you can sell out all these places’ and he gave us a big list – Newcastle City Hall, Manchester’s Free Trade Hall or whatever, you know all the sort of classic gigs that rock bands do, and he said ‘you can fill all these, and at the end, we’re going to do the Rainbow’”.

The group’s month-long UK trek was followed by a brief spring series of shows in North America, which were shut down when May contracted hepatitis.

When the band embarked on their next UK tour to promote the “Sheer Heart Attack” album, Queen played two sold-out nights at the venue in November; the shows were filmed and an abbreviated version was screened in cinemas to promote the group before its eventual release in 2014 as “Live At The Rainbow ’74.”

Queen recently launched their new series – which highlights 50 moments in their legendary history – with a look back at their debut 1973 single, “Keep Yourself Alive.”

ZZ Top: Billy Gibbons streams new solo single West Coast Junkie

ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons is streaming a video for “West Coast Junkie”, as the lead single from his newly-announced solo album, “Hardware.”

Due June 4, the Texas rocker recorded his third record at Escape Studio in California’s high desert, near Palm Springs, which was produced by Gibbons along with Matt Sorum and Mike Fiorentino with engineer Chad Shlosser providing additional production.

“Hardware”, which sees Gibbons joined by his live lineup of Sorum and guitarist Austin Hanks, delivers 11 new original tunes, a guest appearance by Larkin Poe, and a cover of “Hey Baby, Que Paso”, originally recorded by the Texas Tornados.

“We holed up in the desert for a few weeks in the heat of the summer and that in itself was pretty intense,” says Gibbons. “To let off steam we just ‘let it rock’ and that’s what ‘Hardware’ is really all about. For the most part, it’s a raging rocker but always mindful of the desert’s implicit mystery.

“The desert settings, replete with shifting sands, cacti and rattlesnakes makes for the kind of backdrop that lends an element of intrigue reflected in the sounds created out there.”

The album’s title is a tribute to legendary recording engineer the late Joe Hardy, who worked with Gibbons and ZZ Top dating back to the mid-1980s.

“Hardware” marks the follow-up to Gibbons’ 2018 album, “The Big Bad Blues”, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk chart and at No. 2 on the US Blues chart while also being named Blues Rock Album Of The Year at the 2019 Blues Music Awards.

Wolfgang Van Halen debuts Don’t Back Down video

Wolfgang Van Halen is streaming a video for his new single, “Don’t Back Down”, as the latest preview to his forthcoming Mammoth WVH album debut.

Filmed over two days at Eddie Van Halen’s famed 5150 studio, the clip sees multiple Wolfgangs performing the song and engineering it in real-time … reinforcing the fact that the rocker played everything on his first solo project.

“I always thought it would be a fun thing to do a series of videos, maybe not just this one,” Wolfgang tells Rolling Stone, “where it’s just a whole bunch of Wolfs putting it together.”

Written under the working title “Sabbath”, “Don’t Back Down” was built as an aggressive, high-energy track.

“I really leaned into a fight-song mentality,” Wolfgang explains. “The kind of thing you hear when you’re at a sports game and you want your team to really f**k up the other team.”

Due June 11 and produced by Michael Baskette, “Mammoth WVH” was first previewed with the lead single, “Distance”, and the follow-up track “You’re To Blame.”

U2 stream 1983 Live At Red Rocks concert

U2 are streaming a 1983 concert from Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the second installment of their new limited-edition series, “The Virtual Road.”

Audio of the appearance, which captures the band on the road in support of their third album, “War”, was first released via US radio a month after the event before two tracks – “Gloria” and “Party Girl” – surfaced on the late 1983 live record, “Under A Blood Red Sky”, and the project delivered U2’s first home video release the following year.

Footage of U2’s performance of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” at Red Rocks was used as a promo video for the third single from “War.”

In sync with the 2021 streaming event, U2 have released a digital EP featuring four songs from the show: “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “New Year’s Day”, “I Will Follow” and “40.”

U2 launched “The Virtual Road” on St. Patrick’s Day with their 2001 homecoming performance “U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle, Ireland”; the 4-part series will continue on April 1 with “Popmart: Live From Mexico City” before wrapping up on April 10 with “iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE: Live in Paris.”

Royal Blood stream new Typhoons single Limbo

Royal Blood are streaming “Limbo” as the third single from their forthcoming album, “Typhoons.”

“Limbo is about being sick and tired of being sick and tired,” says the duo of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher. “Being bored of my own behavior and the psychological crisis of being utterly lost and helpless to the violent storms of self-destruction and addiction.

“It is without a doubt the most ambitious and wildest we have allowed ourselves to be and we can’t wait to invite you this far down the rabbit hole with us. This is it. Don’t get scared now.”

“Limbo” follows “Trouble’s Coming” and “Typhoons” as the latest preview to the project ahead of its release on April 30.

“Typhoons” will be available in digital, black and colored vinyl, and CD formats; the official Royal Blood store offers a deluxe vinyl packaged with a bonus 7” single (featuring the extra track “Space”) and an art print, and a picture disc.

Stone Temple Pilots preview expanded Tiny Music 25th anniversary reissue

The Stone Temple Pilots are streaming a previously-unreleased alternate version of their 1996 single, “Big Bang Baby”, as the first preview to the July 23 release of an expanded deluxe edition of their third album, “Tiny Music…Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop.”

The original record – which delivered three rock radio hits in “Big Bang Baby”, “Trippin’ On A Hole In A Paper Heart” and “Lady Picture Show” – debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than 2 million copies in the region.

The expanded 2021 reissue will feature a remastered version of the original album, alternate versions and mixes of several of the songs, and a complete concert taped at the Club La Vela in Panama City Beach, Florida, on March 14, 1997.

"Tiny Music" was recorded in late 1995 with producer Brendan O'Brien at the Westerly Ranch in Santa Ynez, CA.

“Re-listening to this album brought back some beautiful memories of all of us living, writing, and recording the record in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley,” guitarist Dean DeLeo tells Rolling Stone. “And of course, every time I revisit this stuff I miss Scott.”

Original STP lead singer Scott Weiland – who parted ways with the band in 2013 and spent the next two years working on solo music and his group The Wildabouts – died in December 2015 at age 48 from an accidental overdose while on tour.

Last year, the group released an acoustic record, “Perdida”, the band’s eighth studio album and second with singer Jeff Gutt following a 2018 self-titled effort.
