Ozzy Osbourne scores highest solo UK chart entry with Ordinary Man

Ozzy Osbourne has scored his highest-charting solo album in the UK ever with his latest effort, “Ordinary Man.”

According to the Official Charts Company, Osbourne’s first new studio release in a decade enters the UK charts at No. 3, which surpasses the previous high of No. 7 set by his 1980 debut, “Blizzard Of Oz”; the rocker has previously had two No. 1 albums in the country with Black Sabbath.

“Ordinary Man” sees Ozzy working with producer and guitarist Andrew Watt and includes the rhythm section of Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, while special guests on the set include Slash, Elton John and Tom Morello.

The project was written and recorded over four days, with additional time for mixing.

“It was a lot of fun to do though it’s a lot different from my other albums,” Ozzy explains. “We recorded it quickly, which I haven’t done since the first Black Sabbath album. This made it a different process, which I actually enjoyed.”

Osbourne recently cancelled his rescheduled North American tour and will soon head to Europe for additional treatments as he continues to deal with a new series of health issues over the past year, in addition to his long-term battle with Parkinson’s disease.

VIDEO: Scorpions resume tour in Sydney following Klaus Meine surgery

photo: Qudos Bank Arena

The Scorpions resumed their Australian tour with a February 26 show in Sydney that was rescheduled from last week after singer Klaus Meine underwent emergency kidney stone surgery in a Melbourne hospital.

The German rockers previously had to cancel a Sydney appearance in 2018 while on the road supporting Def Leppard, and the frontman apologized to the fans at the Qudos Bank Arena for both events.

“It feels really good to be back in Sydney tonight,” said Meine. “It feels really good to be out on stage here tonight. First, I want to say sorry for 2018, you know, and sorry for last Saturday. What a mess with this kidney stone that really knocked me out in Melbourne, and I feel so good to be back on my feet tonight.”

On the road with Whitesnake, Meine’s health issue forced the cancellation of a February 24 concert at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane and the tour’s February 27 stop at the Spark Arena in Auckland, NZ.

The Scorpions are scheduled to perform shows in Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines next week before launching a Las Vegas residency at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in July.

Def Leppard stream Hysteria hit from London To Vegas package

Def Leppard are streaming video of their 1989 hit, “Rocket”, as the first preview to the April 24 release of their forthcoming live package, “London To Vegas.”

Produced by Mutt Lange, “Hysteria” went on to become Def Leppard’s biggest-selling album, with worldwide sales of 25 million copies, including 12 million in the US alone.

“London To Vegas” will be issued in multiple formats, including limited edition 2Blu-ray+4CD, 2DVD+4CD and digital format releases.

Packed in a 10” box with a 40-page hardback book, the package is rounded out with audio from both concerts.

Noel Gallagher revives Oasis demo on Blue Moon Rising EP

Noel Gallagher has revived a decade-old song from his Oasis past on his forthcoming EP, “Blue Moon Rising.”

The rocker is now streaming a lyric video for “Come On Outside” and, as Rolling Stone notes, the track’s roots date back to sessions for Oasis’ 2008 album, “Dig Out Your Soul” – the UK band’s last LP before their 2009 split – with Gallagher continuing to work on the tune in the years since.

A near-complete demo of the song with the High Flying Birds has lingered on YouTube since 2013.

"So I’m rummaging down the back of the couch and found this f*cker!!,” says Gallagher. “Maybe the last great Oasis tune? Maybe not.”

Due May 6, the “Blue Moon Rising” EP will include the track alongside the previously-issued “Wandering Star”, and three mixes of the title song.

New AC/DC album update

Twisted Sister rocker Dee Snider shared some insight into the forthcoming new album by AC/DC during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation.

"I had dinner with [AC/DC singer] Brian [Johnson] recently, and we talked about [the band's return to activity],” Snider tells Eddie Trunk. “He told me a lot of stuff, and a lot of stuff that I don't wanna say. But we know from the photos, and Brian confirmed it, they've been in the studio, they've been recording.

“The original – I don't say the 'original' guys, because a lot of 'em are gone, but I say the 'classic' lineup is back together and there are some surprises, which I can't talk about, regarding Malcolm Young that just had my jaw on the floor. I will say he will be present.

“So this is AC/DC as we know and love them.”

Snider’s appearance on the radio show was to promote a Change.org petition to have AC/DC perform at next year's Super Bowl.

The latest speculation about AC/DC’s plans follows reports last spring and summer that the group were preparing to announce a new album and record with Johnson – who was spotted alongside other band members at a Vancouver recording studio in the summer of 2018 – while longtime AC/DC engineer Mike Fraser confirmed that the band had been in the studio working on a project, without providing further context or details.

There has been no statement from AC/DC regarding their status or plans to date, as fans and media continue to wait for an official update from the band.

Ozzy Osbourne may record new album next month

Ozzy Osbourne says he may begin work on a new album next month as he continues to recover from various health issues he has faced over the past year.

Last week, the legendary rocker issued his twelfth album, “Ordinary Man”, marking his first new studio release in a decade; the project sees him teamed with producer and guitarist Andrew Watt and includes the rhythm section of Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, while special guests include Slash, Elton John and Tom Morello.

Now, Osbourne tells iHeartRadio about the project and his plans for more new music.

“With this album, because I was so miserable the last year, it was a relief just to get and do something that I love to do,” explains Ozzy. “I had no deadlines. And I'm hoping that next month I'll go and do another album with Andrew. I might as well, while I'm not doing gigs.”

Osbourne recently cancelled his rescheduled North American tour and will soon head to Europe for additional treatments.

“I’m so thankful that everyone has been patient because I’ve had a s**t year,” says Osbourne. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get to Switzerland for treatment until April and the treatment takes six-eight weeks.

“I don’t want to start a tour and then cancel shows at the last minute, as it’s just not fair to the fans. I’d rather they get a refund now and when I do the North American tour down the road, everyone who bought a ticket for these shows will be the first ones in line to purchase tickets at that time.”

The North American series was scheduled to start May 27 in Atlanta, GA.

Def Leppard stream 1980 live rarity from The Early Years box set

Def Leppard are streaming audio of a 1980 performance of their rare track, “Good Morning Freedom”, as a preview to the March 20 release of its inclusion on the new box set, “The Early Years 79-81.”

Captured in concert at the Oxford New Theatre, the tune was the b-side to the group’s first US single, “Hello America”, from their debut album, “On Through The Night”, although the b-side did not appear on the project.

Billed as “the definitive collection of the band’s early music,” the 5CD package delivers remastered versions of the UK group’s first two studio records alongside previously-unreleased live material and a collection of B-sides and rarities.

“Well the fans asked, and we listened!,” says vocalist and executive producer Joe Elliott. “Really excited to have our early years reworked with a load of rare material including the newly unearthed Live at the Oxford New Theatre, recorded on the 1980 UK tour.

“It’s been a trip putting this boxset together and I hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as we did working on it! ”

In addition to their inclusion in the forthcoming package, both albums have been remastered and will be available on 1CD, black vinyl, and limited edition colored vinyl versions.

Def Leppard will team up with Motley Crue for a US stadium tour that will begin in San Antonio, TX on June 21.

ZZ Top stream video of rare La Grange performance

ZZ Top are streaming video of a rare performance of their 1973 classic, “La Grange”, as the latest preview to the February 28 release of their new documentary, “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.”

The tune from the Texas trio’s third album, “Tres Hombres”, was filmed at the historic Gruene Hall – the oldest dance hall in Texas – exclusively for the project.

Produced by Banger Films, the documentary tells the story of how three teenage bluesmen - Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard – became one of the biggest bands on the planet, all while maintaining a surrealist mystique that continues to intrigue fans and entice onlookers 50 years after the band’s inception.

Available on DVD, Blu-ray and digitally, “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” presents interviews with the band members alongside conversations with such high-profile fans as Billy Bob Thornton and Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, as well as never-before-seen archival footage.

ZZ Top will launch a spring residency at The Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian Las Vegas next month; the band recently announced fall US tour dates with Def Leppard that will begin in September.

Scorpions reschedule Sydney concert following Klaus Meine surgery

Dr. Katz with Klaus Meine / Scorpions Facebook

The Scorpions have rescheduled a February 22 concert in Sydney, AU following kidney stone surgery to singer Klaus Meine.

The German rockers – who were forced to postpone the original event on short notice as Meine underwent the procedure – will perform the make up date with tour mates Whitesnake at the city’s Qudos Bank Arena on Wednesday, February 26.

All existing tickets remain valid without the need for exchange.

“Looks like I‘m on my way to Sydney tomorrow,” shared Meine Monday on social media alongside a photo with his doctor. “It would mean the world to me if we finally could play the Show on Wednesday Night. I feel still a bit beaten up , but Dr. Katz said .... you can do it my friend ... Let‘s Rock it Sydney ..... Are you ready for the Sting.”

As the singer continues to recover from surgery, the Scorpions and Whitesnake previously announced the cancellation of their February 24 concert at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane.

A tour update on Monday announced the further cancellation of the tour’s February 27 stop at the Spark Arena in Auckland, NZ "due to a medical emergency within the Scorpions tour party and insurmountable logistical issues."

Aerosmith stream Deuces Are Wild Las Vegas residency recap video

Aerosmith are streaming a video recap of their winter 2020 Deuces Are Wild Las Vegas residency series.

“SIN CITY!,” says the Boston band. “We started off 2020 by letting the music do the talking! Las Vegas returns May 20th, 2020!”

Aerosmith resumed the residency at the MGM Park Theater late last month, after being honored as MusiCares Person Of The Year on January 24 and a performance at the Grammy Awards on January 26.

Both appearances saw drum tech John Douglas perform in place of Joey Kramer – who was on hand to accept the MusiCares honor – despite the rocker’s effort to rejoin his bandmates following a series of injuries and health issues that have kept him out of the live lineup since last July.

A lawsuit filed by Kramer in an attempt to force the group to allow his return – after the drummer left rehab in December “against the recommendation of his addiction counselor”, according to court papers – was dismissed by a Massachusetts judge ahead of the events, although Kramer did reunite with the band for the final three performances of the January series in Las Vegas.

Rush: Neil Peart hometown tribute event announced

A tribute to late Rush drummer Neil Peart will take place in his former Canadian hometown this spring.

Set for May 16 at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, ON, “A Night For Neil” is being coordinated in cooperation with the Peart family, Overtime Angels, Inc. - a registered 501(c)(3) charity - and the City of St. Catharines.

Overtime Angels executives reached out to Agent-Producer George Roche of the event entertainment agency Booking House Inc; his team will be producing the tribute evening, bringing together a wide array of production professionals, world-class musicians, and guest speakers to pay tribute to Neil’s life and career.

The growing roster of artists and guest speakers will be announced in a subsequent release.

“The event will honor 'The Professor' of words, lyricism and musicianship from a fan’s perspective,” says Lance Kasten, Vice President of Overtime Angels, Inc. “The outpouring of support for this event from across the globe has been tremendous.”

“We are grateful for the team that Overtime Angels is assembling,” adds Neil’s parents, Glen and Betty Peart. “We are especially pleased to be able to support this charity event that will benefit some much-needed organizations that are close to our hearts.”

In addition to Overtime Angels, the charities chosen by the Peart Family as beneficiaries of this event are:

** St. Catharines Hospital and Walker Cancer Centre
** The Juravinski Hospital & Cancer Centre in Hamilton, Ontario
** The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 28 at 10 AM via Ticketmaster.

St. Catharines city council recently voted unanimously to consider naming the local Lakeside Park – where Peart worked as a teenager – in the late drummer's honor, as well as create "some other sort of tangible memorial."

On January 7, Peart lost a three-and-a-half year battle with Glioblastoma in the years following the band’s final concert in Los Angeles in 2015.

Metallica cancel two festival gigs as James Hetfield continues recovery

Metallica have cancelled a pair of upcoming US festival appearances while frontman James Hetfield continues his recovery and treatment after recently leaving rehab for addiction issues.

“Dear Metallica Family,” began Hetfield in a personal note to fans. “It pains me to write this, but I have to let all of you know that I cannot make it to Sonic Temple in Columbus and Louder Than Life in Louisville this year. As part of my continuing effort to get and stay healthy, I have critical recovery events on those weekends that cannot be moved. I apologize to all of our fans who have bought tickets for these festivals. We are working with the festival promoters to provide for refunds or exchanges.

“My intent with this statement is saying ‘I apologize’ to each one of you. The reality is that I have not prioritized my health in the past year of touring and I now know that my mental health comes first. That might sound like a no-brainer for most of you but I didn’t want to let the Metallica team/family down and, I alone completely compromised myself.”

“Looking on the brighter side, my therapy is going well,”
he continues. “It was absolutely necessary for me to look after my mental, physical, and spiritual health.

“I want to stress that the band will play all other announced 2020 shows.

“I am looking forward to getting back to playing and seeing all our great South American fans in April. And, of course, playing the Epicenter in Charlotte, Welcome To Rockville, in Daytona and Aftershock Festival in Sacramento. We will still play two unique sets at each of these festivals.

“Beyond 2020, I am optimistic about the blessings I have been given and what the future brings. I appreciate all the great prayers and support from everyone since I went into rehab last September. Like the moth into the flame, being human in this career has its huge challenges and can be difficult. Your understanding helps the healing.”

Hetfield re-entered rehab for addiction issues last fall, which caused the cancellation of a series of dates in Australia and New Zealand and, most recently, the postponement of Metallica’s second annual All Within My Hands benefit concert from next month to September 2020.

The rocker performed for the first time since his fall 2019 return to rehab during a February 20 appearance at an Eddie Money tribute show in Beverly Hills, CA.

Judas Priest announce 50th anniversary US tour

Judas Priest have announced dates for a 50th anniversary US tour this fall.

The milestone series – with guest Sabaton – will begin September 9 in Oxon Hill, MD and run to a mid-October show in Las Vegas, NV.

“Judas Priest are primed and ready to deliver the goods with our 50 Heavy Metal Years anniversary celebration stage show spectacular!,” says the band. “Performing a blistering cross section of songs from our lives in metal - we can't wait to raise horns with you again at this once in a metal lifetime event!”

Ticket information for all shows is available at judaspriest.com.

Judas Priest recently confirmed that they have begun work on a new record.

Guitarist Richie Faulkner took to social media earlier this month to share an image of himself alongside Rob Halford and Glenn Tipton as the trio began writing sessions for the follow-up to 2018’s “Firepower”, which earned the band their highest-charting US album with its debut at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 upon its release.

Judas Priest will begin their 2020 live schedule May 30 in Helsinki, Finland.

Neil Young previews 2020 tour plans with Crazy Horse

Neil Young is previewing plans for a 2020 tour with Crazy Horse.

“We have been looking at booking the Crazy Horse Barn tour,” writes the rocker on his Neil Young Archives site. “Many of the old places were used to play are gone now, replaced by new coliseums we have to book a year in advance and we don’t want to anyway. That’s not the way we like to play.

"It sounds way too much like a real job if you have to book it and wait a year, so we have decided to play the old arenas – not the new sports facilities put up by corporations for their sports teams. Largely soulless, these new buildings cost a fortune to play in.

"We wanted to play in a couple of months because we feel like it. To us it’s not a regular job. We don’t like the new rules.”

Young then proceeded to share a list of demolished arenas across North America alongside a number of existing buildings

“If you are looking for us on our Crazy Horse Barn Tour,” adds Young, “we will hopefully be in one of the existing arenas. Hope to see you there. News coming pretty soon!”

Young’s newly-revised plans for a North American tour with Crazy Horse follow a series of updates from the rocker in recent months, who has been focusing his energies on a number of archival projects.

Young and Crazy Horse released their first album in seven years, “Colorado”, last October.

Robby Krieger of The Doors previews first album in a decade

Guitarist Robby Krieger of The Doors is streaming “The Drift”, as the lead track from his first solo album in a decade.

Due April 24, “The Ritual Begins At Sundown” is an instrumental record which was recorded at Krieger’s own Horse Latitudes Studio in Los Angeles and features nine originals and one cover, the Frank Zappa song “Chunga’s Revenge.”

The set sees the rocker regroup with his longtime writing partner and co-producer Arthur Barrow, who worked with Zappa through the 1970s-80s.

“After The Doors I started becoming interested in Jazz and started hanging out with a guy called Sal Marquez,” says Krieger. “So, we put this band together and that was the first Robby Krieger band and we played at the Whiskey A-Go-Go with Don Preston, Zappa’s keyboard player.

“Arthur Barrow, who was a huge Zappa fan – this was before he worked with Frank – he decided that, after graduating from North Texas State music school that he was gonna come out to LA and try to get into Frank’s band, which was pretty brash of him,”
he laughs. “He started hanging out with Don and with Zappa, Don was in my band so we decided to put Arthur in charge of the mixing at the Whiskey for our shows, that’s when I first met him in the 70s.”

The project also features other Zappa alumni Jock Ellis (Trombone), Sal Marquez (Trumpet), Tommy Mars (Keys) and Chad Wackerman (Drums), as well as AeB Bryne (Flute), Vince Denham (Sax), Chuck Manning (Sax) and Joel Taylor (Drums).

Krieger’s seventh solo record marks his first since 2010’s “Singularity.”

Krieger and John Densmore of The Doors reunited for a charity concert in Los Angeles last month, where they were joined by Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic on bass and a number of other players at the first-ever “Homeward Bound” concert, a fundraising event for PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), a non-profit focused on affordable housing and services for the homeless population in California.

Scorpions singer Klaus Meine recovering from surgery

Scorpions singer Klaus Meine is recovering from surgery in a Melbourne, AU hospital.

Along with tour mates Whitesnake, the German band were forced to postpone a February 22 concert in Sydney on short notice "due to a medical emergency within the Scorpions tour party.

"Live Nation is working on a rescheduled date for next week, with details to follow as soon as possible,"
the promoter said in a statement. "All existing tickets will remain valid for entry on the rescheduled date, without the need for exchange. Refunds will be available for patrons who are unable to attend the rescheduled date and can be obtained by contacting their point of purchase."

Meine – who underwent a procedure to remove kidney stones – updated fans on his condition via social media.

"Dear Fans,” began Meine, “The good news first .... we had a fantastic show in Melbourne Wednesday night at the Rod Laver Arena .... loved every minute of it .... it just feels soooo good to be back in Australia!!!! The bad news is... I have had kidney stone surgery in a Melbourne Hospital ... it was a very painful attack....

"In the hospital they removed the stone, and put in a stent .... can you imagine how I feel right now??? So sorry Sydney .... Do we have to cancel again??? It looks like it.... but we are hoping to re-schedule for next week, day to be announced.

"Dr Katz and his team are taking very good care of me ... I’m in the best hands, but I doubt I’ll be back on my feet until early next week..... with lots of Love with a Heavy Heart from Melbourne .... Klaus"

As the singer continues to recover, the Scorpions and Whitesnake announced the cancellation of their February 24 concert at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane.

While fans await news of a rescheduled Sydney concert, the tour is currently set to resume in Auckland, NZ on February 27.

VIDEO: Metallica frontman James Hetfield performs at Eddie Money tribute

Metallica frontman James Hetfield performed for the first time since his fall 2019 return to rehab during a February 20 appearance at an Eddie Money tribute show in Beverly Hills, CA.

The event at the city’s Saban Theater saw Hetfield offer his own personal story about befriending the late rocker, who passed away from esophageal cancer in September at the age of 70.

"I got to hang out with Eddie, the last probably three years of his life," Hetfield told the crowd. "I saw the cleaned-up version of Eddie."

The guitarist first met Money at an Oakland Raiders football game where the singer was set to perform the National Anthem.

"I met him before he went out there, and he kinda blew me off," Hetfield continued. "I thought, 'Who is is this pompous ass?' And, if you spot it, you got it, is what I'm saying. So it was like two big dogs going in a circle around each other, which was kinda funny. I saw through it. I saw through that ego and he saw through mine, and we got to be friends, because I think our egos matched the size or our insecurities."

Hetfield performed a solo acoustic version of Money’s 1977 smash, “Baby Hold On”, at the tribute evening, which raised funds for MusiCares and The USC Eddie Money Cancer Research Fund and saw appearances by Sammy Hagar, George Thorogood, John Waite, Mickey Thomas, Kevin Cronin and Dave Amato of REO Speedwagon, Greg Kihn and Tommy Tutone, among others.

Hetfield re-entered rehab for addiction issues last September, which caused the cancellation of a series of dates in Australia and New Zealand and, most recently, the postponement of Metallica’s second annual All Within My Hands benefit concertfrom next month to September 2020.
