Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell has revealed that he is currently working on a solo album.
“I got together with [bassist] Lou Castro and [drummer] Glen Sobel today to run through 5 songs for my new record,” posted Campbell on Tuesday. “We'll be cutting demo tracks Dec 16th. Big excitement! Well, it is for me, at least...”
Vivian shared additional details in a post on Wednesday.
”A few peeps have asked questions about my upcoming recordings, so here are some of the facts: I'm making a rock record (lots of guitar). I intend to sing, however, I may ask a real singer to help out if I fail miserably at the demo stages. I'm also writing for Def Leppard (we all are) as Leppard will be recording new music in February. So, all in all it's a busy time creatively.”
In June, Campbell announced that he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which meant rounds of treatement and chemotherapy.
Last month, the guitarist updated fans on his health status.
“For anyone who gives a toss, after doing another PET scan and all the other follow up tests, then getting a second opinion etc., I'm officially in remission from Hodgies,” wrote Campbell. “That's the good news. The bad news is: I no longer have an excuse to not go to the gym.”
Def Leppard recently released the live package, “VIVA! Hysteria”, which captures the band during their 2013 spring residency in Las Vegas.
The UK rockers played 11 shows at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino this past spring, following in the footsteps of Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses.
The Las Vegas shows featured two sets from the band: the first, a wild card collection of songs that changed from night to night – performed under the name “Ded Flatbird”; the second presented the band’s iconic 1987 album, “Hysteria”, from start to finish.
