Rock News Artist of The Year No. 8 – DAVID GILMOUR
David Gilmour issued “The Piper’s Call” in April as the lead single to his newly-announced album, “Luck And Strange”, ahead of the project’s September release.
The iconic guitarist’s first album of new material in nine years was recorded over five months in Brighton and London, with the majority of the set’s lyrics composed by his wife Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years.
Soon after the track was issued, Gilmour unveiled live residency dates in the UK, Europe and the US to promote the package.
More singles followed, including a cover of The Montgolfier Brothers' 1999 song, “Between Two Points” – which features David’s daughter Romany on vocals and harp, and “Dark And Velvet Nights” as well as the title track.
Gilmour made a rare appearance on US television in November on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon in sync with his five-show residency at New York’s Madison Square Garden; the episode saw David discuss the 2024 album and a number of other topics, including the theory that Pink Floyd's 1973 classic, “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, was written to synchronize with the 1939 film, “The Wizard Of Oz.”
Gilmour was joined by The Tonight Show house band The Roots to perform "Dark And Velvet Nights" from “Luck And Strange.”
