Rock News Artist of The Year No. 1 – AC/DC
AC/DC made headlines in late 2023 when it performed its first show in seven years during an October appearance at the Power Trip festival in California as fans awaited for the group to return to concert stages around the globe.
Meanwhile, 2024 began with news that the title track from the band’s 1980 classic, “Back In Black”, had passed 1 billion views on YouTube.
In February, AC/DC announced dates for a summer tour of Europe in support of its 2020 album, “Power Up”, with shows set to launch in May.
April saw the iconic band share rare video of a 1976 UK television performance of its classic track, “Jailbreak.”
“Not aired in 40 years,” AC/DC posted on social media. “Check out this promo clip of the band performing ‘Jailbreak,’ shot in London in July 1976, remastered in HD!”
Following the 2024 tour’s launch in Germany in mid-May, pro-shot video of the 1979 classic, “If You Want Blood (You've Got It)”, surfaced from an early date in Seville.
The “Back In Black” album made more headlines in July after it reached a new sales milestone when The Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) confirmed certified US sales of 26 million copies, placing the set into a tie for third place alongside The Eagles’ “Hotel California”; topping the chart is The Eagles “Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)” at 38 million copies sold, with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” sitting at No. 2 with 34 million in sales.
July saw AC/DC’s 1990 classic, “Thunderstruck”, top two US charts just weeks after “The Razor’s Edge” hit was recognized with Diamond status by The Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) for certified US sales of more than 10 million copies.
AC/DC completed the European leg of the Power Up World Tour in July, with recent news confirming North American dates starting in early April 2025.
