The group has been working with producer Bob Rock on new material, which represents their first recordings with new touring guitarist John 5.
“Hit the studio with @thevinceneil today here in London,” tweeted Nikki Sixx on May 13. “The new @MotleyCrue songs are 100% officially done and ready for mix.”
While Sixx has been keeping fans posted on the sessions, there’s no word yet on release plans or whether the group will return to the studio for more recording at some point during their 2023 World Tour with Def Leppard.
“We don’t have a definitive plan at this point,” posted Sixx last month. “Just letting the songs guide us.”
Motley Crue’s last full studio album was 2008’s “Saints Of Los Angeles”, which was issued prior to the band’s retirement from the road and a farewell tour that wrapped up in 2015.
The band did record four songs with Bob Rock for the soundtrack to the band’s 2019 biopic, “The Dirt”, including three that were co-written with John 5; the film’s success prompted the group to reunite for a planned 2020 tour, which was bumped to 2022 due to the pandemic.
Motley Crue and Def Leppard will resume the 2023 tour in Sheffield, UK on May 22.
