Foo Fighters reveal new drummer

The Foo Fighters have revealed Josh Freese as their new drummer.

The band shared the news as part of “Preparing Music For Concerts”, a free global streaming event that introduced Freese as a member of the lineup following the tragic 2022 death of Taylor Hawkins.

The live performance featured a mix of classic tracks, a Huey Lewis cover, and the live debut of new singles “Rescued” and “Under You” from the group’s forthcoming album, “But Here We Are”, as well as the world premiere of the new track “Nothing At All.”

Originally a member of the California punk band The Vandals, Freese’s history includes stints with Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Devo and Sting, among others, and work as a session drummer on hundreds of records in a variety of genres.

Most recently, the drummer was scheduled to perform live dates with both the Offspring and Danny Elfman; he left both gigs to prepare for the Foo Fighters tour, which will begin in Gilford, NH on May 24.

Freese was one of several drummers to perform with the Foo Fighters at both of the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts in London and Los Angeles last fall.

The new Foos album, “But Here We Are”, will be released on June 2.
