A ceremony honoring the rocker – originally scheduled for January 5 and moved to Friday, January 6 at 11:30 am PST due to the possibility of inclement weather – will see Idol receive the 2,743rd star on the Walk at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Amoeba Music.
Joining emcee Lupita Sanchez Cornejo for the star unveiling will be artist Shepard Fairey and rocker Henry Rollins.
Idol first gained attention in the 1970s with the UK punk band Generation X before going solo in 1981 with the “Don’t Stop” EP and 1982’s self-titled debut album; the follow-up, 1983’s “Rebel Yell”, delivered his commercial breakthrough with a number of hit singles – including “Eyes Without A Face”, “Flesh For Fantasy” and the title track – and a profile boost from companion videos featured on the emerging MTV platform.
1986’s “Whiplash Smile” delivered more success and career chart highs in both the UK and US, and by 2014, Idol had issued his eighth studio album, “Kings & Queens Of The Underground”, before releasing a pair of EP’s, 2021’s “The Roadside” and 2022’s “The Cage.”
