Finalists for the 13th annual hennemusic Rock News Awards are chosen by readers: the Rock News Story Of The Year is determined by page views, while the Rock News Artist Of The Year is based on the combined total page views of the top 50 hennemusic rock news stories of the past twelve months.
The 2022 hennemusic Rock News Awards winners will be announced on Friday, December 16.
2022 Rock News Artist Of The Year – Top 10

Rock News Artist of The Year No. 9 – JIMI HENDRIX
The Jimi Hendrix estate ended 2021 with a 2022 Grammy Award nomination in the Best Music Film category for “Music, Money, Madness...Jimi Hendrix In Maui”, which documented The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s visit and performance on the Hawaiian island in the summer of 1970, just weeks before the guitarist’s passing in London, UK.
The project was screened in cinemas in February around the same time that the estate continued streaming audio of a series of full concert performances by the rocker, including a 1968 appearance in Dallas, TX and a 1968 show in Chicago, IL.
At the Grammy Awards in April, the Recording Academy honored the “Summer Of Soul” documentary over the Hendrix in Maui film and other finalists in the 2022 Best Music Film category.
Hendrix was honored in June with a rare, second UK historical blue plaque as part of an event at London’s Hard Rock Hotel in Marble Arch. The permanent marker – designating notable historical figures and locations – commemorated Jimi’s last London residence, known then as the Cumberland Hotel; his 1968-69 Mayfair residence was previously recognized in 1997.
In September, the estate previewed a November release of “The Jimi Hendrix Experience Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969”, which had never-before been officially available in its entirety; you can stream the full recording here.
Last month, celebrations around Jimi’s 80th birthday included a three-day event at the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) and Northwest African American Museum in his hometown of Seattle, WA.
