Rock News Artist of The Year No. 4 – THE EAGLES
The Eagles began the year by adding dates to the US leg of their ongoing Hotel California US tour, which made headlines upon its February launch when the group announced that Deacon Frey would not be joining them on the series “due to illness”, and news in April when he officially left the band to work on his own career.
In June, The Eagles played dates on a 50th Anniversary UK tour – which also included a few European stops, after which Walsh kicked off a highly-anticipated guest residency on CBS-TV’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in August.
As The Eagles resumed their 2022 trek in September with more North American dates, the guitarist promoted his annual VetsAid concert with a pre-taped performance of his 1973 classic, “Rocky Mountain Way”, on Colbert’s program in late October.
The November 13 event in Columbus, OH featured a James Gang reunion with guest Dave Grohl, and performances by Nine Inch Nails, The Black Keys, and The Breeders.
Walsh’s connection to his concert series, which has raised more than $2 million for US veterans and their families in its first 5 years, is inspired by his own experience: his father, a US Air Force flight instructor, died in a plane crash in Japan in 1949 when Joe was just a one-year-old.
The Eagles - who wrapped up their 2022 live schedule in late November – will return to the road for more US shows that will begin next February.
