Steve Perry streams new holiday single Maybe This Year

Steve Perry is streaming his original holiday single, “Maybe This Year”, as featured on the newly-released Deluxe Edition of his 2021 Christmas album, “The Season.”

“I wanted to write an original Christmas song of my own,” explains Perry, “so Dallas Kruse and I began writing what became ‘Maybe This Year.’ I wrote the lyrical sentiment about how the holidays can bring such joy and sadness and how for me, both these emotions give me connection to feelings of gratitude for so many years gone by, and a desire to hold on to these holiday feelings we share throughout the coming year.”

“Maybe This Year” joins a soulful new cover of the Donny Hathaway classic, "This Christmas", as one of two brand-new recordings featured on the expanded Deluxe Edition of the project.

The former Journey singer’s latest project was co-produced by Perry and engineer Thom Flowers and mostly recorded at his home studio in California, where he was joined by multi-instrumentalist Dallas Kruse and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting, Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa).

Following a long break from the music industry, Perry released his first album in 25 years – “Traces” – in 2018; the project delivered the singer his first US solo top 10 album when it debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200.

Michael Monroe releases Derelict Palace video

Michael Monroe has released a video for “Derelict Palace”, a track from his latest album, “I Live Too Fast To Die Young.”

“'Derelict Palace' is about watching someone that you care about disappear into drug addiction," guitarist Rich Jones explains. “I had been listening to a lot of post-punk when I wrote it - Echo & The Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs, The Church - and I wanted to see if we could push the band in that kind of musical direction."

“The song was written about people who get a little too into drugs and before you know it, they kind of disappear from all of the people and things that they used to love,”
adds Monroe. “Of course, that’s sad, but that said, there’s something cool about being an outcast and not fitting in… This is one of my favorite songs off the ‘I Live Too Fast To Die Young’ album and it adds a nice new dimension to my band’s sound and style. Plus, we found the perfect place to film the video for it!”

Monroe recorded his tenth studio set at Inkfish Studios in Helsinki, Finland between November and December 2021.

Noel Gallagher shares new single Pretty Boy

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are sharing a video for their new single, "Pretty Boy."

Recorded at Gallagher’s own Lone Star Sound studio in London, the track – which will appear on the rocker’s next album – features guitar work from guitarist and former member of The Smiths, Johnny Marr.

"For this new record it was the first thing I wrote, the first thing I demoed and the first thing I finished, so it's only right that it's the first thing people get to hear,” says Gallagher. “Massive shout out to my mainest man Johnny Marr for taking it somewhere special. Oh ... and watch out for a cameo from me in the video ... first one to spot me wins a bag of Flamin' Hot Wotsits Giants!!"

Expected to arrive next year, the project will mark the full album follow-up to the band’s 2017 record, “Who Built The Moon?”

Motley Crue announce new guitarist as Mick Mars retires from touring

Motley Crue has announced a new touring guitarist as Mick Mars confirms his retirement from the road.

The rocker’s representative shared the news in a statement released to Variety, which reads: “Mick Mars, co-founder and lead guitarist of the heavy metal band Motley Crue for the past 41 years, has announced today that due to his ongoing painful struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.), he will no longer be able to tour with the band. Mick will continue as a member of the band, but can no longer handle the rigors of the road. A.S. is an extremely painful and crippling degenerative disease, which affects the spine.”

The 71-year-old Mars has struggled with Ankylosing Spondylitis since his late teens.

“While change is never easy, we accept Mick’s decision to retire from the band due to challenges with his health,” said Mars’ fellow Motley Crue members in a joint statement. “We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace. To say ‘enough is enough’ is the ultimate act of courage. Mick’s sound helped define Motley Crue from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We’ll continue to honor his musical legacy.

“We will carry out Mick’s wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023. No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick’s shoes so we are grateful that our good friend, John 5, has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We’ll see all your Crueheads out on the road!”

“I’m honored to carry on Mick’s legacy,” added John 5, “and am looking forward to playing these songs.”

John 5 started his career as a studio musician in Los Angeles in the late-1980s before stints working with Lita Ford and KISS frontman Paul Stanley; he formed 2wo with Rob Halford in the late 1990s, and followed that by recording with David Lee Roth on his 1998 release, “DLR Band”; the guitarist went on to record and tour with Marilyn Manson before starting his current tenure with Rob Zombie in 2005.

Motley Crue and Def Leppard recently announced the first series of dates for a global 2023 stadium tour following the success of their 2022 trek across North America; shows are set to begin in Mexico City on February 18.

Judas Priest share new album update ahead of Rock Hall induction

Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford is sharing an update on the progress of the band’s new studio album ahead of their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame next month.

The work-in-progress will mark the follow-up to the group’s 2018 record, “Firepower”, which earner the legendary UK outfit their highest-charting US album when it debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 upon its release.

“All the writing's done; the bulk of the recording is done,” Halford tells Q104.3 New York. “I've still gotta put my vocal tracks down. So, in essence, it's done, which is a great feeling, because again, that really points us to the metal future. Everything that we've done in Priest over the last 50-odd years has been driven by the latest music that we're making. So this is no exception.

“We'll finish this 50th anniversary celebration down in São Paulo, Brazil on December the 18th, and that'll be this year done. And then next year we're kicking off with our good friend Ozzy in the UK, we'll do some shows with him, and in Europe. And then a few other bits and pieces we've got going over in Europe. And then we stop. And then we plan the next release sequence for the next Priest album."

Currently playing dates on a fall US tour, Judas Priest will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame during a November 5 event at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA; the band are being honored with the Musical Excellence Award, which is given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music. Def Leppard share favorite moments from 2022 stadium tour with Motley Crue

Def Leppard has issued a new video package featuring band members sharing their favorite moments from their 2022 North American Stadium Tour with Motley Crue.

Def Leppard were on the road promoting their latest album, “Diamond Star Halos”, which debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hard Rock Chart and No. 10 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year.

“36 shows finished and done,” says Joe Eilliott (as transcribed by hennemusic). “What was my favorite moment on this tour? I can honestly say – 36 times – the opening to the set. When we’re stood behind that screen and it starts to go up on the beginning of ‘Take What You Want’, it’s the most satisfying moment because we are going on stage – in front of anywhere between 30-40,000 people – playing a brand new song on The Stadium Tour.

“It just meant so much to us; it wasn’t just a nostalgia fest – it would have been had we done the tour in 2020 we’d have had no new music, but Covid gave us that opportunity to write a new record. And, to be able to play three (new) songs, it just made our hearts sing so much, you know. The anticipation: we’re waiting backstage, last song plays off the tape, and then the lights go down – it just doesn’t get any better than that moment. Just spectacular!”

The video package gives fans a chance to hear from every member of the group as they bid farewell to the 2022 run and begin preparing for a 2023 world tour with Motley Crue that will open in Mexico City on February 18 before playing shows across Latin and South America and heading to Europe for events starting in Def Leppard’s hometown of Sheffield, UK on May 22.

The 2022 North American series – with Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts – sold more than 1.3 million tickets and made more than $173.5 million at the box office.

Creedence Clearwater Revival share 1970 Royal Albert Hall performance of Bad Moon Rising

Creedence Clearwater Revival are sharing video of a 1970 performance of “Bad Moon Rising”, from their recently-released package, “Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall”

The April 14 event saw CCR deliver hit after hit from three studio albums issued in less than a year: “Bayou Country”, “Green River” and “Willie And The Poor Boys”, and their self-titled 1968 debut.

When CCR took the stage at the iconic UK venue, the band members had reached the height of their international stardom and arrived ready to prove themselves as equals to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles, who had announced their breakup just days before.

Their performance – which included hits like “Born On The Bayou,” “Proud Mary,” and "Fortunate Son" – was met with a 15-minute standing ovation and rave next-day reviews in the UK’s top publications.

More than 50 years after that legendary show, the original multitrack tapes have been meticulously restored and mixed by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell.

The live recording was released simultaneously alongside the documentary concert feature film, “Travelin’ Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall”, which delivers the only concert footage of the original CCR lineup to be released in its entirety.

On November 14, both the album and the film will be presented in a Super Deluxe Edition Box Set, available exclusively via CraftRecordings.com.

Jimi Hendrix streams Purple Haze from 1969 Los Angeles Forum concert

Jimi Hendrix's team is streaming live audio of “Purple Haze” as the latest preview to the November 18 release of “The Jimi Hendrix Experience Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969.”

Recorded before a sold out audience, the performance of the original lineup – Hendrix, drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding – which has never before been released in its entirety, will be issued in time for the 80th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s birth (November 27).

The 1969 concert was recorded by Wally Heider and Bill Halverson contemporaneously, and recently remixed by longtime Hendrix producer/engineer Eddie Kramer for maximum audio fidelity. It was produced by Kramer, Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and the sister of Jimi Hendrix, and John McDermott, who manages the Hendrix music catalog on behalf of Experience Hendrix.

The package’s liner notes are by former LA Times staff writer/critic Randy Lewis with a preface by ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons who attended the Hendrix Forum show, having toured with the Experience as part of the Moving Sidewalks, his pre-ZZ band.

“After the performance, Jimi came by and said, ‘Hey man, how did we do?’” Gibbons states in the liner notes. “How do you respond to that since there’s no basis for comparison as it was such a singular performance? All I could manage was, ‘I’m floored, I’m fixed’ and left it at that. Still am.”

“The Jimi Hendrix Experience Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969” will be available in multiple formats, including 2LP vinyl, CD and all digital platforms.

Red Hot Chili Peppers top US album sales with Return Of The Dream Canteen

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have debuted at No. 1 on the US Top Album Sales chart with their new album, “Return Of The Dream Canteen.”

According to Billboard, the Rick Rubin-produced project sold 56,000 albums in its opening week to top the chart, which earns the California band a pair of No. 1s in 2022 – alongside April’s “Unlimited Love” – to become the first group with two No. 1 rock albums on the chart in less than 12 months since 2005 when System Of A Down doubled-up with “Mezmerize” and “Hypnotize.”

Guns N’ Roses are streaming audio of a 1992 performance of their track, “Double Talkin’ Jive”, ahead of its inclusion in the forthcoming “Use Your Illusion I & II” box set.

The group were captured delivering the “Use Your Illusion I” track in concert at The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV on January 25, 1992 during the extensive, multi-year world tour in support of both albums, which were released simultaneously in September of 1991.

Due November 11, the pair of albums have been remastered for the 2022 project as part of a series of new configurations, including Super Deluxe Seven-CD + Blu-ray and Super Deluxe Twelve-LP + Blu-ray packages that will feature a total of 97 songs, 63 of which are unreleased audio and video tracks.

Both Super Deluxe Editions also include the complete audio recording “Live In New York”, taped at the Ritz Theatre on May 16, 1991, with sound newly mixed from original multi-track tapes, as well as the complete audio recording of “Live In Las Vegas.”

The Blu-ray menu features the brand-new live music video “You Could Be Mine.”

Queen release video for lost Freddie Mercury song Face It Alone

Queen has released a video for “Face It Alone”, a recently rediscovered 1988 song featuring previously-unheard vocals by Freddie Mercury.

Originally recorded during sessions for the group’s 1989 album, “The Miracle”, the song was unearthed when the band’s production and archive team returned to those sessions to work on the upcoming box set reissue of the project.

“The intention was to create, despite how the lyrics might be interpreted, an upbeat video that celebrated the fact that the period during which this song was recorded was one of the most prolific and cohesive in the band’s history,” says Queen’s content creator Simon Lupton. “The meaning of the song has been interpreted that when something catastrophic occurs in your life, your instinct is to surround yourself with what is dearest and most important to you. Immersing himself in his work, and surrounding himself with his bandmates, gave Freddie that control. Of course, in the end, you have to face it alone – but the people around you can help how you face it.”

The iconic UK band will release “Queen The Miracle Collector’s Edition” box set, on November 18; in addition to “Face It Alone”, the project provides first-time hearings of five other previously-unreleased Queen songs: “Dog With A Bone”, “I Guess We’re Falling Out”, “You Know You Belong To Me”, “When Love Breaks Up”, and “Water.”

Megadeth release Life In Hell video

Megadeth has released a video of “Life In Hell”, a track from their latest album, “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”

The clip follows “We’ll Be Back”, “Night Stalkers” and the title track as the fourth and latest video installment from the band’s multi-part short film about the origins of the group's mascot Vic Rattlehead.

Megadeth’s sixteenth studio album sees founder Dave Mustaine working alongside co-producer Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Parkway Drive), who together oversaw 2016’s “Dystopia.”

The 2022 project was recorded at the rocker’s home studio in Nashville, TN with guitarist Kiko Loureiro and drummer Dirk Verbeuren; bassist Steve DiGiorgio temporarily stepped in to record tracks on the project, with the live lineup now featuring Megadeth-alumni James LoMenzo as the permanent bass player.

“The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” recently debuted at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200.

Sammy Hagar releases Father Time video

Sammy Hagar And The Circle have released a video for “Father Time”, a track from their new album, “Crazy Times.”

"When I first wrote Father Time, I kept it from everyone because it was so personal that I’d get too choked up to actually sing it,” explains Hagar. “I wrote it just after turning 70 while I was at our then home in Maui. That house was my sanctuary in the middle of the jungle, overlooking the ocean-- it was just paradise.

“The words ‘Father Time’s over there looking over my shoulder’ just kept going through my head, so I picked up my guitar and the rest of the song just came spilling out. I turned on my iPhone and recorded it. I cried my eyes out after I wrote and played it back. It’s probably the most personal song that I’ve ever written and now, after just turning 75, I’m finally ready to release it.”

Hagar celebrated his 75th birthday on October 13 as part of his annual week of Birthday Bash concerts at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

The band recorded “Crazy Times” with producer Dave Cobb at the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville, TN.
