Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi reunite to close Commonwealth Games

Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi reunited to perform a Black Sabbath classic as part of the August 8 closing ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in their hometown of Birmingham, UK.

The appearance began with Iommi launching into “Iron Man” as Osbourne could be heard offstage delivering the song’s intro line; as official video shows, lights then hit the stage to reveal Osbourne coming up on a riser through the stage floor as the crowd roars and the pair – joined by drummer Tommy Clufetos and bassist Adam Wakeman – rip into their 1970 classic, “Paranoid.”

The performance at the city’s Alexander Stadium – where Iommi also appeared during the event’s opening ceremony on July 28 – marked the duo’s first time on stage together since the closing night of Black Sabbath’s farewell tour, which took place in Birmingham in 2017.

“What a way to bring it all to an end!” shared Commonwealth Games organizers on social media alongside a clip of the Black Sabbath finale. “Thank you, Birmingham. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

“Thank you #Birmingham #CommonwealthGames2022,” tweeted Black Sabbath in appreciation.

Iommi is currently featured on Osbourne’s new single, “Degradation Rules”, from the singer’s forthcoming album, “Patient Number 9.”
