Sammy Hagar has revealed that he plans to rlease a new album later this year.
“We're gonna have a new record coming out in the next couple of months, we're gonna release the first single,” Hagar tells Forbes. “We made a record called ‘Crazy Times’ with [producer] Dave Cobb (Slash, Chris Stapleton). It's the best record I ever made in my life, but I hate to even say that because that's what everyone says. But I'm telling you from my heart, it's the best record I ever made in my life.”
“We did it at this RCA Studio [in Nashville] with all that vintage equipment, it sounds phenomenal,” he adds. “It's great, my best songwriting ever, best production ever, and we made four videos already.”
Hagar – who first shared news about the project upon its completion last November – is quick to confirm that “Crazy Times” is a rock record, despite Nashville’s reputation as a country capital, and that approach fit in with his producer’s plans for the project.
“David Cobb said, ‘I'm not gonna do anything that even sounds anything remotely country on this record, 'cause I wanted to make an Americana record a little bit less hard rock," recalls the Red Rocker. “He goes, ‘I wanna make ‘Standing Hampton.’ I wanna make the record I grew up on, I wanna hear you and Mikey sing like you did in ‘'Top Of The World,' with Van Halen. That's what we're gonna get out of you guys." And he'd come up and squeeze it out of us.”
The project will mark the follow-up to Hagar And The Circle’s 2021 covers collection, “Lockdown 2020”, and their debut studio record, 2019’s “Space Between.”
In addition to their Las Vegas residency dates, Hagar and the band have been playing live shows this year and will launch the Crazy Times tour with George Thorogood in Bridgeport, CT on June 10.
