Mick Jagger has co-written, recorded and performed the theme tune for the Apple TV Plus Original series “Slow Horses,” with film composer Daniel Pemberton.
Due April 1, the song will arrive in sync with the launch of the six-part espionage adventure based on a series of acclaimed books by Mick Herron; it follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 – Slough House on the outskirts of London – with Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies who end up in Slough House due to their career ending mistakes.
“Slow Horses” also stars Kristen Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Olivia Cook and Jack Lowden.
Pemberton approached Jagger to work on the title song for the project.
“Out of the blue, I got an email from a guy I didn’t know, Daniel Pemberton,” Jagger tells Rolling Stone. “I’d heard of him, because he’d done quite a lot of TV and film music, English guy, and he’d gotten a lot of kudos [and] nominations for awards. He said, ‘Would you be interested in doing this TV theme?’ I’m always up for doing something different.”
"Working with Mick Jagger has been one of the most exciting collaborations of my professional career,” says Pemberton. “I think we have managed to create an incredibly unique and original titles theme and I cannot wait for the rest of the world to hear it.”
“We always wanted a song to set the tone for the show and there was only ever one name in my mind - Mick Jagger,” adds director James Hawes. “Hearing the track for the first time was utterly thrilling. Mick’s lyrics and performance have totally nailed the mood of Slow Horses, with all the humour and swagger I dreamed of."
On May 13, Jagger and The Rolling Stones will release a live album of their legendary 1977 performances at the Toronto’s El Mocambo club, and then launch a 60th anniversary tour of the UK and Europe in Madrid, Spain on June 1.
