The band – who will issue a new EP, “Hard Skool”, on CD and cassette on February 25 – first released the title track last September as one of two standalone 2021 digital singles – alongside “Absurd”, and now the 2022 package will pair the songs with live versions of “Don't Cry” and “You're Crazy.”
“There’s new Guns material coming out as we speak, and we’ll probably keep putting it out until the entire record’s worth of stuff is done and then put it out solid,” Slash explains. “It’s cool. I’m enjoying working on the stuff and having a good time doing it.”
The project – which marks the first recordings by the band with the guitarist and Duff McKagan since 1994 – follows the pair’s reunion with Axl Rose in 2016 and years of regular touring.
“When we got together, Axl and I really got over this major sort of hump of negativity that we’ve been carrying around for years and years,” recalls Slash. “It was a real simple, relatively short conversation that we had… In all these years that we’ve been apart, he’s become super-f***ing professional. And he’s never missed a beat during this whole time. So it’s been great. There has been a sort of synergy that’s been happening this last six years that we never had in our first incarnation.”
As for a full new studio album by Guns N’ Roses, Slash jokes: “That’s a whole other interview!”
The group are currently scheduled to begin their 2022 concert dates with an appearance at the Welcome To Rockville Festival in Daytona Beach, FL in May.
