Fleetwood Mac began 2021 by streaming audio of a previously-unreleased performance of their classic track, “The Chain”, as a preview to the April 9 release of a series of expanded editions of their 1980 album, “Live.”
In late February, they shared video of Steven Tyler and Billy Gibbons performing at an early 2020 all-star concert tribute to the band’s founder, Peter Green, in advance of its arrival in cinemas and online ahead of the event’s official release in the spring.
A live album of the Green tribute debuted at No. 3 in the UK charts in early May, as another Tyler/Gibbons track, “Oh Well”, was streamed online.
In June, former member Lindsey Buckingham announced plans to release his first solo album in a decade and support it with a fall US tour, while sharing the set’s lead single, “I Don’t Mind”; a follow-up tune, “On The Wrong Side” – that revisits his time in Fleetwood Mac – surfaced in August ahead of the album’s release the following month, which synced up with a performance on CBS’TV’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Stevie Nicks canceled her summer 2021 live dates as the US battled another wave of the pandemic.
October saw Eric Clapton stream video of his cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic, “Black Magic Woman”, from his live package, “The Lady In The Balcony: Lockdown Sessions”; it is joined by “Man Of The World” as one of two Green compositions featured on the project, which captures the guitarist and his band performing acoustic renditions of his tracks alongside an assortment of other numbers.
Before year’s end, another version of the 1969 Fleetwood Mac classic, “Oh Well”, would surface as part of the new Deep Purple covers collection, “Turning To Crime”, which also includes songs originally done by Cream, The Yardbirds, Bob Dylan and more.
