Debuting with The Black Album Exhibition, the project will offer an unprecedented and ongoing deep dive into every era of Metallica – from the early 1980s garage days up to the present.
The band members will share content by "unboxing" their collections, pulling their favorite, most significant, and personally meaningful artifacts out of careful storage.
"We’ve been incredibly fortunate to travel to all corners of the planet, meet so many amazing people, and do things we once only dreamed of,” says Metallica. “And when you’ve been around for 40 years, you manage to collect a few things! Along the way, the four of us have hung on to many keepsakes, photographs, articles of clothing, sketches, and so much more, stashing these items away in attics, garages, and storage spaces.”
The Metallica Black Box launches with The Black Album Exhibition, featuring a collection of items curated to share in support of the 30th anniversary of the band’s 1991 classic, “Metallica” aka “The Black Album.”
Fans can access photos and memorabilia from the album’s creation and companion world tour, era, as well as checking out ticketed weekly livestream events of 10 concerts from the era – beginning this Saturday, November 20 with Metallica’s September 11, 1991 show in Graz, Austria.
