Motley Crue sell entire recorded catalog to BMG

Motley Crue have sold the rights to their entire recorded catalog to global music company BMG.

The agreement includes the band’s entire recorded output spanning their 40-year career totaling nine studio albums – from their 1981 debut, “Too Fast For Love”, through to 2008’s “Saints of Los Angeles”, as well as several Platinum-selling live albums and compilation sets.

While no figures were official revealed, the deal is BMG’s largest single catalog acquisition since the company was founded in 2008.

“It feels amazing to be collaborating with our new partners at BMG,” says Motley Crue. “Their extensive track record of success in Rock made them the perfect home to continue preserving and growing our musical legacy, ensuring we always stay at The Top.”

“After working side by side with BMG for well over a decade,”
adds band manager Allen Kovac, “the relationship we have developed and success we’ve accomplished over the years made this a very easy transition to entrust with this treasured Rock catalog. Working with BMG in any capacity, whether that’s publishing or records, has always been a great experience.”

“This is more than just a significant transaction,”
explains BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch. “It’s a new chapter for an extraordinary catalog. Few bands understand the myth and the magic of Rock like Motley Crue do. In an increasingly competitive rights acquisition market, artists need to be convinced that a buyer will do the right thing with their work. I am delighted that Motley Crue have decided BMG will be the best custodians of their musical career.”

Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, Motley Crue have sold over 100 million albums worldwide with seven Platinum and multi-Platinum albums, nine Top 10 albums, 22 Top 40 Mainstream Rock hits, six Top 20 Pop singles, three Grammy nominations, a New York Times best-seller, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Following the huge success of their 2019 Netflix biopic “The Dirt”, Motley Crue saw a massive surge in new fans around the world, which inspired the band members to reunite for a live comeback following the end of their farewell tour in 2015.

In June 2022, Motley Crue will kick off their previously postponed (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) 30+ date headlining US stadium tour, marking the group’s return to the stage for their first major concert run in seven years.

Metallica stream Enter Sandman from Welcome To Rockville performance

Metallica are streaming video footage of their 1991 classic, “Enter Sandman”, from their November 14 appearance at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, FL.

Following a November 12 appearance at the event, the band returned two nights later to deliver a headlining set that featured a performance of their self-titled 1991 record – aka The Black Album – in its entirety.

After opening the show with 2016’s “Hardwired” and a pair of classic tracks, the band launched into a full version of the album in reverse order – beginning with the rarely-played “The Struggle Within” and “My Friend Of Misery”, and eventually closing out their regular set with “Enter Sandman” before returning for encores.

This fall, Metallica released a series of 30th anniversary reissues of “Metallica”, which helped return it to the US Top 10 for the first time in three decades.

Originally set to take place in 2020, the shows were first postponed due to the pandemic and the shutdown of the live music industry, and reset for 2021.

Faulkner – who continues to recover from the procedure – recently confirmed that his surgeons are pleased with his progress, that’s he’s been active and playing guitar every day and looking forward to returning to the stage.

The North American tour will resume - with special guest Queensryche - for rescheduled dates starting March 4 in Peoria, IL, with dates wrapping up in early April with four Canadian concerts.

Previously-purchased tickets for all shows remain valid for the 2022 dates, with pre-sale seats for the Peoria, IL and Quebec City, QC concerts going on sale Wednesday, December 1, and general public access on Friday, December 3 at 10 am local time. Judas Priest

Queen has most streamed classic album in the UK

Queen’s 1981 “Greatest Hits” package has been named the most-streamed classic album in the UK according to a survey of data by the country’s Official Charts Company.

The collection topped a list of 200 of the most-streamed albums released in the 70s, 80s and 90s; upon its original release, Queen’s “Greatest Hits” debuted on the UK charts at No. 2 before spending four weeks atop the list.

The compilation is the best-selling album of all time in the UK and, in 2014 it became the first album ever to sell 6 million copies in the country, with one in three British households at that time owning a copy of the record.

“It’s amazing that we accrued that kind of catalogue of bona fide hits,” explained Brian May on a recent episode of the band’s 50th anniversary series The Greatest. “Most people’s ‘Greatest Hits’ are like ‘yeah, we’ve got a couple but we’re going to throw a few things in which are kind of, could’ve been hits.’ But this is all gold-plated, chart material. So it’s easy, you just put the biggest ones in and that was it.”

Queen’s “Greatest Hits” has logged 973 weeks on the UK Official Albums Chart to date.

Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic, “Rumours”, came in at No. 2 on the most-streamed album list, with Oasis’ 1995 album, “(What's the Story) Morning Glory?”, at No. 3; ABBA’s 1992 set, “Gold: Greatest Hits”, landed at No. 4, while the Bob Marley & The Wailers 1984 collection, “Legend”, rounding out the 5.

Only two acts had multiple records in the Top 10: Oasis also had a No. 6 showing with their 1994 debut, “Definitely Maybe”, and Bob Marley & The Wailers’ 1977 set, “Exodus”, came in at No. 10.

Oasis score UK Top 5 debut with Knebworth 1996 live package

Oasis have scored a UK Top 5 debut with their newly-released “Knebworth 1996” live package.

The Official Charts Company reports the project enters the UK Top 100 at No. 4, marking the band’s first Top 10 album in 11 years; led by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, the group famously disbanded in 2009.

The concert film and live album “Knebworth 1996” captures Oasis in performance over a pair of summertime shows at the UK venue before 125,000 fans each night; the events saw more than 2.5 million fans apply for access, setting a record for the largest-ever demand for concert tickets in British history.

“It’s a story driven entirely by the music, a rock and roll experience, told in the moment, like a visual stream of consciousness that is built around the extensive archive footage from the event,” says director Jake Scott. “No on-camera interviews or unnecessary celebrity recollections.”

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have debuted their new album, “Raise The Roof”, in the US Top 10.

According to Billboard, the set enters the Billboard 200 at No. 7 with opening week sales of a little over 40,000 equivalent album units earned; of that sum, album sales comprise 38,000, streaming equivalent albums (SEA) units comprise 2,000 (equaling 2.17 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs) and track equivalent albums (TEA) units comprise less than 1,000.

Produced by T-Bone Burnett, “Raise The Roof” features twelve new recordings of songs by legends and unsung heroes including Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, The Everly Brothers, Anne Briggs, Geeshie Wiley, Bert Jansch and more.

Deep Purple stream new covers collection Turning To Crime

Deep Purple are streaming their new covers collection, “Turning To Crime”, in sync with its release on November 26.

Recorded in Nashville, TN with producer Bob Ezrin, the project features songs originally done by Cream, The Yardbirds, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan and more.

The project came about as a result of the Covid-pandemic, as the band were forced to cancel all planned activities after the release of 2020’s “Whoosh!”; spending their time in isolation without being able to play together in person, an idea came up the group had actually been playing with for years: making a record packed with songs written and originally performed by other artists.

“Turning To Crime” is now available in multiple formats, including limited colored vinyl 2LP, classic black vinyl 2LP, Digisleeve CD, Jewelbox CD, and digital.

Royal Blood release video for Typhoons track All We Have Is Now

Royal Blood have released a video for “All We Have Is Now”, a track from their latest album, “Typhoons.”

The clip was directed by and stars American musician and filmmaker Liam Lynch, who previously oversaw videos for “Boilermaker” and “Oblivion” from the band’s third studio record.

“We couldn’t speak any higher of Liam,” says the duo of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher. “He sends us the first cut of his creations and we don’t change a thing, they’re perfect. We have zero involvement other than giving him complete creative freedom!

“Thank you, Liam, for not only bringing our songs to life in such style, but making us feel understood when we watch them back. This was sent to us as somewhat of a surprise!”

“Thanks to the band for inspiration and creative freedom to do whatever I wanted,” shared Lynch on social media. “Thanks to my wife for actually being in it with me.”

“Typhoons” earned Royal Blood their third straight UK No. 1, following similar success with their 2014 self-titled debut and 2017’s “How Did We Get So Dark?”

Queen revisit Innuendo on The Greatest series

Queen revisit their 1991 album, “Innuendo”, in latest episode of the band’s 50th anniversary video series The Greatest.

Entering the studio in Montreaux, Switzerland, the band faced the challenge of creating and making new music while singer Freddie Mercury’s health continued to decline in the years following an HIV positive diagnosis ion 1987, unbeknownst to the public.

While an early 1990 appearance at the BRIT Awards to accept an Outstanding Contribution to British Music honor displayed changes in Mercury’s physical appearance and further fueled speculation about his health, the group forged on with sessions for the project.

Queen recorded the set live in the city’s Casino Hall with producer Dave Richards in an effort to catch moments of improvisation while working on the material.

“There's some very good stuff on ‘Innuendo’,” says Roger Taylor, “and it was quite live as well, and I think a bigger studio is good for us.”

“There was a feeling of sort of re exploring our youth almost buried in there somewhere,”
recalls Brian May about the experience. “And it was fun.”

“Freddie was singing down there live as well with them, and there was absolutely no impression from me that he could have been sick,” Richards explains. “He was full of beans and singing away.”

“I did a complete demo for ‘The Show Must Go On’,”
shares May, “including that very high part, you know, 'On with the show'. And I said to Freddie, because Freddie always used to say, 'Oh Brian, you're f**king making me tear my throat to bits again'. So I remember apologizing in as much as I said, 'Look, I've done it in falsetto. I don't know if it's possible to do it full voice, you know, but obviously that would be great'.”

“And he went 'Oh for God's sake', you know, he said, 'roll the tape', a couple of vodkas, and he went for that line, which is outstanding, you know, for him to reach those notes. He's reaching heights he's never done before. He's just finding the energy from somewhere? And the voice on ‘The Show Must Go On’ is incredible. I never heard anybody sing like that in my whole life. And he rose to every challenge and seemed to reach heights that he never even reached before.”

At the beginning of 1991, the “Innuendo” album and single were released and both entered the UK charts at number one, while it was also Queen’s first album to go gold in the US on release since “The Works” in 1984.

Sadly, “Innuendo” was the final Queen studio album to be released during Mercury’s lifetime; he would die of complications from AIDS in November of 1991.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi launches cologne with new song

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is launching a new cologne with a companion song entitled “Scent Of Dark.”

The instrumental was inspired through a collaboration with Sergio Momo, the founder and creative manager of the Italian perfumier Xerjoff, as the pair developed a new fragrance of the same name.

According to Rolling Stone, the creative process began last year when the perfumier approached Iommi to play on a charity track; while the guitarist couldn’t do it at the time, Momo sent him a box of colognes as a thank you for considering it, and a follow-up call led to a conversation about collaborating on a scent of his own…and “Scent Of Dark” was born….and, eventually, a song to go along with it.

“Scent Of Dark” marks the first musical composition Iommi has released since writing a classical piece for the Birmingham Cathedral in 2017 and first rock song since Black Sabbath’s 2013 album, “13.”

The track sees Iommi joined by Momo on guitar, bassist Jimmy Crutchley (who introduced Iommi to Momo), Ash Sheehan on drums, and Iommi’s longtime producer Mike Exeter on keyboards; Rebecca Rose and Julianne Bourne play cello and violin, respectively.

The song’s video was filmed at Sudeley Castle near Gloucestershire, England.

When Iommi decided to develop his own cologne, he already knew how some Black Sabbath fans would react.

“They’ll think I’ve gone mad,” he says. “It’s something I would’ve never thought of involving myself in. But it’s been nice to be involved in it.”

Read more of Iommi’s thoughts on the project at rollingstone.com.

Black Sabbath recently released an expanded reissue of their 1976 album, “Technical Ecstasy”, to mark the project’s 45th anniversary.

Amended Nirvana Nevermind lawsuit cites Kurt Cobain journal entries

A lawsuit brought against Nirvana by the man who was photographed as a baby for the cover for their 1991 album, “Nevermind”, has been amended to cite journal entries by Kurt Cobain in a new filing in a federal court in Los Angeles this week.

30-year-old Spencer Elden originally took legal action this summer over allegations of child sexual exploitation based on his claim that the nude image of him as a four-month-old in a swimming pool constitutes child pornography.

According to Rolling Stone, Elden has amended the action to highlight excerpts from Cobain’s personal journals – which were published by Riverhead Books in 2002 – ostensibly to further build the case that the “Nevermind” cover was meant to be “lascivious.”

The new paperwork states: “Undated journals written by Cobain sketch the album cover in a sexual manner, with semen all over it. In several instances, the journals describe Cobain’s twisted vision for the Nevermind album cover, along with his emotional struggles: ‘I like to make incisions into the belly of infants then f**k the incision until the child dies.’”

Elden’s new filing further claims that the photographer hired for the photo session, Kirk Weddle, also shot images of him as styled to look like Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, apparently without providing additional context.

The original suit sought damages of at least $150,000 from each of the 15 named defendants, who include surviving band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic; the managers of Cobain's estate; Cobain's former wife Courtney Love; and Weddle; the revised edition drops former Nirvana drummer Chad Channing as a defendant in the case, and no longer names Warner Music, nor Heather Parry and Guy Oseary, who were previously listed as managers of Cobain’s estate.

Earlier this month, Nirvana released a series of expanded editions of “Nevermind” to mark the project’s 30th anniversary.

David Bowie revisits Black Tie White Noise in Brilliant Adventure box set preview

David Bowie’s team are revisiting the late rocker’s 1993 album, “Black Tie White Noise”, ahead of its inclusion in the forthcoming box set, “David Bowie 5. Brilliant Adventure (1992-2001).”

Fans can check out an EPK (electronic press kit) video of Bowie discussing the inspiration and influences behind the UK No.1 record, and watch upgraded HD videos for the set’s three singles: “Jump They Say”, “Miracle Goodnight”, and the title track.

“White noise itself is something that I first encountered on the synthesiser many years ago,” explained Bowie about the album’s title. “There’s black noise and white noise. I thought that much of what is said and done by the whites is white noise. ‘Black ties’ is because, for me, musically, the one thing that really turned me on to wanting to be a musician, wanting to write, was black music, American black music.

"I found it all very exciting – the feeling of aggression that came through the arrangements. That’s what triggered my interest in American black music. That led me to the blues...for a number of years I worked with rhythm and blues bands, and my participation in them formed my own black ties in that area of music.”

“Black Tie White Noise” has been remastered for the 2021 package, which is due November 26 and will be available in 11CD or 18LP editions and also include newly remastered versions of 1993’s “The Buddha of Suburbia”, 1995’ “Outside”, 1997’s “Earthling” and 1999’s “hours…” along with the expanded live record, “BBC Radio Theatre, London, June 27,2000”, the non-album / alternative version / B-sides and soundtrack music compilation “Re:Call 5”, and the previously unreleased “Toy.”

Whitesnake welcome new bassist to lineup for farewell tour

Whitesnake have announced Tanya O’Callaghan as their new bassist ahead of the start of the band’s farewell tour next year.

O’Callaghan joins Whitesnake following word that the group had parted ways with longtime member Michael Devin.

"Well, well, well… Ladies & Gentlemen… Boys & Girls…,” shared the band, “We are very proud to announce & to introduce you all to our newest Snake… or should I say… SNAKETTE!!! Please give a LOUD Whitesnake Choir welcome to The Irish Tornado!

“A whirling dervish of a performer whom we feel will bring a fresh, new, exciting musicality & welcome energy to the band, both in the studio & onstage… here she is… Irish born & bred… the one & only… Tanya O’Callaghan!!!”

“For whatever reason, Whitesnake has never featured a female musician in the band before… Bad Boys!!!,” says David Coverdale. “But, when we saw Tanya performing with our friend Stephen Adler’s band at the M3 festival in 2019 & we were all blown away… An electrifying performer… When Whitesnake & Michael Devin decided to go their separate ways, Tanya was the first person we reached out to & thankfully she accepted our invitation to become a Snake…

“We are thrilled & delighted to welcome Tanya O’Callaghan to Whitesnake!! Let the music do the talking!!!”

"I guess the snake's out of the bag,” adds O’Callaghan. “What an absolute honor to be joining Whitesnake/David Coverdale for their worldwide farewell tour 2022/23. This small town gal still pinches herself over the amount of legends I've had the joy to work, tour and record with over the past few years since I made the terrifying solo leap across the Atlantic with no clue how everything would unfold.

“It's been a wild ride and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, who calls, only feckin' WHITESNAKE! And the best part, to step into the snake shoes of my bass brothers Rudy Sarzo, Tony Franklin Neil Murray and Michael Devin ... are you kidding me...what a f#*king honor beyond belief!!! My heart is exploding.”

Whitesnake will launch the 2022 European leg of their farewell world tour in Dublin, Ireland on May 10.

Jimi Hendrix nominated for 2022 Grammy Award

Jimi Hendrix has been nominated for a 2022 Grammy Award.

“Music, Money, Madness . . . Jimi Hendrix In Maui” is a finalist in the Best Music Film category, where it has been recognized alongside projects on Bo Burnham, David Byrne, Billie Eilish, and a "Summer Of Soul" documentary.

The Hendrix nomination recognizes the artist, video director John McDermott, and the video production team of McDermott, Janie Hendrix and George Scott.

The rock film chronicles the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s visit to the Hawaiian island of Maui and how they became involved in the ill-fated 1971 “Rainbow Bridge” movie produced by their controversial manager Michael Jeffery, who arranged for a free Hendrix concert on the lower slope of the dormant Haleakala volcano to add to the package.

In the aftermath of his performances on Maui, Hendrix would return to New York and his work at Electric Lady Studios before leaving for a series of European dates; the rocker would die in London just three weeks later, on September 18, 1970.
