Eric Clapton to release 50th anniversary edition of Layla album

Eric Clapton will release an expanded 50th anniversary edition of his 1970 album with Derek & The Dominos, “Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs”, on November 13.

Following the break-up of Blind Faith and his departure from Delaney & Bonnie, Clapton formed the group in the spring of 1970 with former members of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, including keyboardist Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon.

A summer tour of the UK was followed by recording of the project, which saw the lineup joined in the studio by Duane Allman and was supported by a fall US tour in sync with the record’s release; not long after the tour, the group disbanded while the title track went on to be considered amongst Clapton’s greatest musical achievements.

As the project hits 50, a new 4LP vinyl box set sees the 2LP record expanded to include b-sides, studio outtakes and audio of a rare live US TV performance on The Johnny Cash Show; the package also includes a 12×12 book of sleeve notes taken from the 40th-Anniversary Edition.
