Metallica are marking frontman James Hetfield’s birthday with video of full 2000 concert in the latest installment of their weekly streaming series.
“Metallica Mondays celebrates James’ 57th birthday with a gig filmed on his 37th birthday,” says the band. “Filmed during the second of two free makeup shows at Starplex Amphitheater in Dallas, TX on August 3, 2000.”
The Summer Sanitarium Tour marked the final trek by Metallica bassist Jason Newsted before he quit in early 2001 over attempts to launch an album with his side project Echobrain with the full support of band management, who later backed out after Hetfield balked at the idea.
The Dallas gig came late in the 2000 series of 20 North American concerts, which would return in 2003 for more shows with new addition Robert Trujillo.
