Ghost unveiled a new frontman during the final show of their “Prequelle” world tour in Mexico City on March 3.
The trek behind the Swedish outfit’s fourth album has seen singer Tobias Forge in character as Cardinal Copia, following three earlier incarnations of Papa Emeritus, with Papa Emeritus IV making his debut halfway through the Mexico City concert.
“We wish to inform you the Final Gig Named Death has taken place,” says the band. “Gracias Mexico City for your hospitality and warmth. We couldn’t pick a better place to witness the anointment of Cardinal Copia to Papa Emeritus IV.
“Papa and the ghouls are incredibly thankful for all your wonderful gifts. Looking forward to seeing all of you in 2021.”
Recorded with producer Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Opeth) at Artery Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, “Prequelle” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 upon its release in 2018.
