David Lee Roth kicked off his Las Vegas residency at the House Of Blues on January 8, and video from opening night is streaming online.
The rocker delivered a 15-song set of Van Halen classics and solo hits during the first of three nights at the venue this month, which started with a run through the Van Halenized version of The Kinks' “You Really Got Me” and closed with the “1984” smash, “Jump.”
Roth rocked five tunes from his solo career, including 1988’s “Just Like Paradise”, 1994’s “Big Train”, and covers of tracks by the Beach Boys (“California Girls”), John Loudermilk (“Tobacco Road”) and Louis Prima (“Just A Gigolo/Ain’t Got Nobody”).
Roth will play two more residency shows this week before joining KISS for dates on that band’s The End Of The Road farewell tour when it resumes in Manchester, NH on February 1; he’ll return to Vegas for six more nights in March and rejoin the KISS trek in the fall.
The Van Halen frontman previously hosted a pair of residencies in 1995 - at Bally's Hotel and Casino and at MGM Grand – with a band that featured Nile Rodgers, Edgar Winter, and members of the Miami Sound Machine.
