Red Hot Chili Peppers announce return of guitarist John Frusciante

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced the return of guitarist John Frusciante to their lineup.

"The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are parting ways with our guitarist of the past ten years, Josh Klinghoffer,” shared the band on Instagram. “Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him and the countless gifts he shared with us.

"We also announce, with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group. Thank you."

The reunion marks Frusciante’s third stint with the group, after a four-year run that began in the late 1980s and a decade-long tenure that started in the late 1990s; the guitarist appeared on several of the band's most successful records, including 1989’s "Mother's Milk", 1991’s "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" and 1999’s "Californication."

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ latest recording is 2016’s “The Getaway.”
