Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford is thrilled with news of the UK band’s second nomination for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Despite global sales of almost 50 million albums and being eligible since 1999, the band received their first nod in 2018 but failed to make the cut.
"It's just another thrill, again, to be nominated," Halford tells Billboard, "and so quickly because I know sometimes the nominations can get stretched out for quite a long period of time. So to get another one so quickly is wonderful and another great moment for the Priest and for our fans."
Judas Priest were named among 16 nominees under consideration for teh Class Of 2020 by music industry voters, as part of a list that includes fellow UK rockers Motorhead, T. Rex and Thin Lizzy.
"There's always a tinge of controversy about the Hall," Halford notes, "but the fact that Priest is here again speaks volumes about the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame respecting heavy metal music, especially British heavy metal music….It's just an extra, extra feeling to know that we're surrounded by our great friends in the music world."
With various lineups through the years, the Hall Of Fame has selected Halford, bassist Ian Hill, guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, and drummers Scott Travis, Les Binks and Dave Holland for possible entry into the Cleveland-based institution.
The 2020 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees will be announced in December; the ceremony will take place at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, OH on May 2, 2020.
