Metallica have released footage of their rehearsal with Lady Gaga as they prepared to perform “Moth Into Flame” at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last month.
The pairing suffered through a technical glitch by producers when James Hetfield’s microphone failed to work during the first verse, forcing him to share Gaga’s as they played the second single from their No. 1 album, “Hardwired…To Self Destruct.”
"Perhaps you've heard by now that we experienced a slight bit of a technical difficulty when we hit the stage at the Grammy Awards with Lady Gaga a little over a week ago ' hmm, would that qualify as an understatement?!?", says the band. “We've had so many of you ask and wonder 'what if,' so we thought it might be fun to also share with you what happened just a few hours earlier that day at the dress rehearsal with all cylinders firing just right.
“Collaborating, hanging and performing with Gaga was easily one of the most exciting, inspiring and enjoyable experiences of our career - she BRINGS IT every single time!! All we have to say is that we absolutely cannot wait until next time!"
Metallica were on hand at the 59th annual event because their single, “Hardwired”, was nominated in the Best Rock Song category; it lost out to “Blackstar” by David Bowie.
The group just wrapped up a series of shows in Mexico City and will return to live action later with a set of appearances at Lollapalooza festivals in South America later this month.
The band will launch a 25-show summer stadium tour of North America at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD on May 10.
