Ghost are premiering a video for “Square Hammer”, the lead track from their newly-released EP, “Popestar.”
Directed by Zev Deans, the clip features frontman Papa Emeritus III in “history’s first moving picture” as he and the Nameless Ghouls attend the screening in a packed cinema.
The tune is the lone original on the 5-track project, which also includes covers of songs originally done by Eurythmics, Echo & The Bunnymen, Simian Mobile Disco and Imperiet.
Produced by Tom Dalgety, “Popestar” follows the 2015 album, “Meliora”, while offering a potential sonic taste of the group’s next studio effort.
“If you hear the EP,” says one of the Nameless Ghouls, “don’t think, ‘Oh, the next album is gonna sound exactly like this.’ But it’s a good way for us to sneak in elements. You might hear a synth sound like this on the next record, but not as evident.”
Ghost are supporting the project with a fall tour of North America that runs into mid-November.
