The Motley Crue classic, “Home Sweet Home”, provides the soundtrack to a new NFL commercial celebrating the return of football.
Creativity Online reports the ad – which debuted during Saturday’s ESPN broadcast of the league's first preseason game between the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys – cuts together joyful scenes of players, coaches, fans, groundskeepers, owners and broadcasters singing the 1985 hit ballad.
Directed by Rob Gehring, the commercial includes cameos by former New York Giant-turned-talk show host Michael Strahan, Pittsburgh Steelers player Antonio Brown, NFL vet Charles Woodson, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the Denver Broncos' Von Miller, among others.
The ad closes by announcing, "Families always come home, sweet home," followed by the NFL's theme "Football is Family."
The NFL will kickoff its new season on September 8 with the Denver Broncos playing host to the Carolina Panthers.
“Home Sweet Home” appeared on 1985’s “Theatre Of Pain”, and was later included on 1991’s “Decade Of Decadence” compilation. The original release as a single charted at No. 89 on the US Billboard Hot 100; it’s reissue as "Home Sweet Home '91" peaked at number 37 on the same chart in 1992.
"Home Sweet Home '91" is the last Motley Crue song to chart in the American Billboard Top 40.
Motley Crue wrapped up their farewell tour at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last New Year’s Eve and captured the event with the recently-released concert film “The End.”
