Major League Baseball’s San Francisco Giants hosted the 4th annual Metallica Night at AT &T Park on May 6.
Guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett performed the national anthem, while drummer Lars Ulrich threw out the first pitch before the Giants took on the Colorado Rockies.
During the evening, Hetfield also stepped up to lead the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to Giants legend Willie Mays, who turned 85 on Friday.
A portion of the proceeds from every ticket will benefit the Surfrider Foundation and Amnesty International.
Metallica are currently in studio working on the follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic” with producer Greg Fidelman.
Hammett recently joined Elton John in Las Vegas for a performance of his 1973 classic “Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.”
The April 30 special appearance took place on the final night of John’s spring residency of “The Million Dollar Piano” show at at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
