Rolling Stones: Desert Trip festival sells out both weekends
The new classic rock festival Desert Trip - a three-day festival this fall that will be headlined by The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Roger Waters – sold out both of its weekend events in less than three hours this week.
Running October 7-9 and 14-16 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, the Stones and Bob Dylan will perform on Fridays, McCartney and Neil Young on Saturdays and Roger Waters and The Who will close out Sunday evenings.
With performances starting after sunset, each artist will play a full set with their own stage productions.
Billboard reports sources confirm that both Desert Trip weekends sold out in less than three hours each, resulting in a box office gross that will likely reach $150 million.
Global ticket demand was high, with the most ticket orders coming in from the U.S. and Canada, South America, the United Kingdom and Germany.
The Billboard source adds that Desert Trip demand was so extensive that it could likely have supported two more weekends with this lineup.
The Rolling Stones will release a new live collection, “Totally Stripped”, on June 3 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
The set expands on the 1995 unplugged album, “Stripped”, which delivered acoustic and alternate versions of the band’s classics alongside select covers of tunes by Bob Dylan and Robert Johnson, among others.
