Audio of Axl Rose and AC/DC soundchecking for their live debut in Lisbon, Portugal on May 7 has surfaced ahead of the concert.
A fan has captured snippets of six songs from a May 6 soundcheck at Passeio Maritimo de Algés, which includes two tunes set to make their tour debut: “Rock ‘n’ Roll Damnation” from 1978’s “Powerage” and “Dog Eat Dog” from 1977’s “Let There Be Rock.”
Rounding out the audio file are tracks from a May 4 rehearsal in the city that have previously been posted online.
Rose is stepping in to help AC/DC following news in March that singer Brian Johnson’s hearing issues had reached a crisis point, causing the group the postpone 10 US dates.
"You get a lot of rumors out there; a lot of people think Brian was fired. That's not the case,” says guitarist Angus Young. “It was mainly his hearing. He already had a very bad ear, and the good ear that he had left was dropping rapidly. I mean, it was an ongoing issue all the way pretty much through the tour from the beginning."
"He had an instance where there was a marked drop in that one good ear and it came back, but not completely,” explains bassist Cliff Williams. “The doc told him this can happen again and it may not come back. So, you know, you kind of go ‘What do you do with that?’"
“It was out of our hands,” adds Young. “It was his call, what he felt.”
Rose is on board for AC/DC’s 12-date European tour and will rejoin the band sometime later this year for the to-be-rescheduled US Rock Or Bust dates.
