Rolling Stones: Ron Wood becomes father to twins at 68

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has become a father to twins just two days before his 69th birthday.

The BBC reports Woods and wife Sally became new parents to twin girls late on Monday evening, according to Wood's publicist.

"Ronnie & Sally Wood are delighted to announce the birth of their twins Gracie Jane (6lb) & Alice Rose (5.7lb),” read the official announcement. “The girls arrived on 30 May at 22:30 and all are doing brilliantly. The babies are perfect."

"Thank you all so much for the love," tweeted Sally on Tuesday. “Can't believe our babies are a day old already. They are wonderful."

The twins are Wood's fifth and sixth children, but the first for him and his wife, who is a theatre producer; the couple married in 2012.

Prior to the twins’ arrival and his impending 69th birthday on June 1, Wood posted a photo of himself and his dog (above), writing “waiting #38 weeks.”

Wood has four children already - Jesse Wood with his first wife, former model Krissy Wood, daughter Leah and son Tyrone from his second marriage to Jo, and Jamie - Jo's son from a previous marriage whom Wood adopted.

The Rolling Stones will release a new live collection, “Totally Stripped”, on June 3 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

The set expands on the 1995 unplugged album, “Stripped”, which delivered acoustic and alternate versions of the band’s classics alongside select covers of tunes by Bob Dylan and Robert Johnson, among others.

Tragically Hip expand farewell tour amid ticket controversy

The Tragically Hip have expanded their farewell tour with the addition of four concert dates amid controversy over a first-day fan club presale on Monday.

The Kingston, Ontario band announced a third show in Toronto and second gigs in Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary “due to overwhelming demand” from fans following news that frontman Gord Downie has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

The summer tour in support of the band’s forthcoming June 17 album, “Man Machine Poem”, will begin in Victoria, BC on July 22 and wrap up in the band’s hometown of Kingston, ON on August 20.

A fan club presale for the new dates starts May 31 at 10am EDT via Ticketmaster, with general public tickets for all shows available June 3 at 10am EDT.

An updated tour schedule can be found below.

The CBC reports a May 30 fan club pre-sale is causing controversy after tickets were snapped up via Ticketmaster within moments and then re-appeared minutes later at a massive markup on resale sites like StubHub.

In Vancouver, for example, at 11 a.m. PT – one hour after they went on sale – all the Ticketmaster tickets for the July 24 show were gone, but nearly 100 floor seats were being offered on StubHub for between $237 and $2,799 US per ticket.

The original prices were between $116 and $166 Cdn for the same seats, according to Ticketmaster's website.

Fans quickly cried foul over the situation, speculating that scalpers used bots to secure tickets ahead of the fan club members.

The backlash prompted StubHub to issue a statement playing up the tour’s uniqueness and charitable component without actually addressing any issues put forward by Tragically Hip followers.

“Dear Fans, thank you for reaching out to us regarding The Tragically Hip tour,” stated StubHub. “Over the years, StubHub has donated nearly $2 million in support of charitable events like this one and in support of the artists and charitable intent of this event, we are pleased to make a donation to the Sunnybrook Foundation as well.

“As a free and open marketplace, StubHub is committed to ensuring fans have access to buy and sell tickets to the events they want to see, and to supporting charitable causes in the communities in which we operate.”

Pink Floyd 50th anniversary to be honored with UK stamps

The Royal Mail is honoring the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd with a set of 10 stamps in their native UK.

Five decades since Pink Floyd became the ‘house band’ of the London Underground movement of music and arts, the Royal Mail has created the series to display six of their iconic album covers and four live performances.

The album images features the band’s groundbreaking 1967 debut, “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn”, 1970’s “Atom Heart Mother”, 1973’s “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, 1975’s “Wish You Were Here”, 1977’s “Animals” and the group’s final album, 2014’s “The Endless River.”

The history of the group’s legendary live performances are spotlighted with images from London’s UFO Club in 1966, and tours in support of “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, “The Wall” and “The Division Bell.”

Pink Floyd were formed when the founding trio of bassist Roger Waters, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright were augmented by original guitarist Syd Barrett. In 1968, guitarist David Gilmour joined the band shortly before Barrett’s departure.

For 50 years, Royal Mail’s Special Stamp program has commemorated and celebrated events and anniversaries pertinent to UK heritage and life. Today, there are an estimated 2.5 million stamp collectors and gift givers in the UK and millions worldwide. Her Majesty the Queen approves all UK stamp designs before they are printed.

The Royal Mail stamps are now available to pre-order at royalmail.com and will be officially issued on July 7.

On June 3, Pink Floyd will launch a reissue campaign presenting their extensive catalogue on vinyl for the first time in more than two decades.

The first set of reissues delivers the band’s first four albums: 1967’s “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn”, 1968’s “A Saucerful Of Secrets”, the soundtrack from the 1969 film “More”, and the 1969 2-LP set “Ummagumma.”

The group’s own Pink Floyd Records will reproduce the vinyl catalogue throughout the year with release dates being announced at regular intervals.

It’s the 8th date on AC/DC’s spring tour of Europe, which kicked off with the debut of Rose in Lisbon on May 7 at center stage in place of Brian Johnson, who stepped aside from live performances in March on the advice of doctors in order to prevent further damage to his hearing.

Rose is on board for AC/DC’s 13-date European spring tour and will rejoin the band sometime later this year for the to-be-rescheduled US Rock Or Bust dates.

AC/DC guitarist Angus Young reveals the band is thrilled with Rose’s performances.

"He's doing very well,” says Young. “I mean, under the situation that we had, it was very good that he volunteered and said, 'Hey, if I can help, let me try.' So he's been very good. And he had to learn a lot of songs very quickly, and he's done a great job.

“We were committed to finishing this tour, so that's been our main goal. And Axl helping us…I know he's very excited; he keeps saying ‘can he do more’?

“But we don't really know at the end how we will [go from here]. But we wanna get this tour, which we were committed to doing, we wanted to finish what we started."

VIDEO: Hollywood Vampires headline Rock In Rio Lisbon

photo: Rock In Rio Lisboa via Twitter

Supergroup The Hollywood Vampires headlined at Rock In Rio in Lisbon, Portugal on May 27 and video from the show is available.

The band topped a bill at the event’s second weekend alongside Korn and Rival Sons, delivering a 21-song set that featured 3 originals and 18 covers of classic rock tracks by David Bowie, The Who, T. Rex, The Doors and Led Zeppelin, among others.

Led by the trio of Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, the summer 2016 shows see Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots step in on bass for Guns N’ Roses Duff McKagan due to his other commitements, and is rounded out by drummer Matt Sorum, guitarist Tommy Henriksen and multi-instrumentalist Bruce Witkin on piano, percussion and guitar.

"Here is a gang of friends who came together really by chance and over the last year we were finally able to wrangle our schedules and the energy just fell into place,” says Perry. “Playing with this line up is like a dream come true. After seeing the reaction at Brazil's Rock In Rio 2015 in front of 100,000 fans, I know this band is going to tear the house down. Hell, I would want to be in the audience to see us rip it up."

Cooper recently confirmed that The Hollywood Vampires have begun working on a follow-up to their 2015 self-titled debut, which featured a collection of covers of tracks by classic rock acts.

Lars Ulrich shares Metallica album update

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says the band are in the final stages of completing the follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”

“We’re now coming towards the end of the musical creative process,” Ulrich tells Metal Forces, “and we’re starting to look ahead and the process of how we’re gonna share this record with the universe. The month of June is basically when we’re gonna sit down and figure what we’re gonna do with it all, what we’re gonna call it and what’s gonna be on it.

Greg Fidelman is 24/7 on this record and has been since last summer. He’s doing an insanely great job and has been putting his heart and soul in it pretty much every waking moment of his life in helping us engineer and produce this record.”

Ulrich cautions that the project’s release plans have yet to be determined.

“If the record doesn’t come out this year then it won’t be because it’s not done,” he says. “It will be because there’s some sort of cosmic reason that it would be smarter to hold onto it until next year. But the record will be done this summer.”

Metallica and its members have taken breaks from the studio for live dates and various events throughout the recording process: they performed the anthem earlier this month as the San Francisco Giants hosted the 4th annual Metallica Night at AT &T Park, and delivered a 2016 Record Store Day performance at Rasputin Music in Berkeley, CA in April.

In addition, James Hetfield co-hosted the third annual "Acoustic-4-A-Cure" benefit concert at The Fillmore in San Francisco on May 15, guitarist Kirk Hammett joined Elton John in Las Vegas for a performance of his 1973 classic, “Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting”, and Ulrich was among the guests featured on an episode of Join Or Die – comedian Craig Ferguson's new show on the History channel – to debate history’s most influential band.

VIDEO: Duff McKagan recalls meeting Axl Rose in documentary preview

Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan recalls meeting Axl Rose for the first time in a new preview of his documentary, “It's So Easy And Other Lies: Live At The Moore.”

“Axl let out one of his screams and it was like nothing I’d ever heard,” says McKagan. “There were two voices coming out of him at once. I suppose there is a name for that in musicology, but all I knew in that instant was that this dude was… different… powerful… and serious.”

Directed by Christopher Duddy, the project sees McKagan telling his life story in a live performance setting at the famed Seattle venue in 2013.

The Seattle appearance was part of a promotional tour by McKagan in support of his 2012 memoir, “It's So Easy (And Other Lies)”, which debuted on the New York Times’ Hardcover Nonfiction Best Sellers list at No. 17.

The documentary is being screened in 50 US cities now ahead of the its theatrical release in Los Angeles on June 3.

McKagan and Rose will regroup with Slash to launch a partially-reunited Guns N’ Roses summer stadium tour of North America at Ford Field in Detroit, MI on June 23.

The band’s 2016 lineup is rounded out by Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed, Frank Ferrer and Melissa Reese.

VIDEO: Neil Young guests on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Neil Young was among the guests appearing on CBS-TV’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on May 26.

The rocker was on hand to promote the June 17 release of a new live album called “Earth.”

The set mixes 2015 concert readings with the Promise Of The Real band – featuring Willie Nelson’s sons Micah and Lukas – alongside ambient elements like car horns, insects and animal sounds.

"I missed the memo that said that albums are not happening anymore," Young told Colbert. “It's all about albums being a rip-off and only one song is good on the album so that's all you need to get. Singles are great, it's just that there is more to it than singles. There's more to love than the first kiss."

Young managed to get some plugs in for his PONO music player and his support of Bernie Sanders in the US Presidential election, even though he is unable to vote in his adopted country.

“I’m Canadian,” he proudly declared. “I’m a neighbor, and as such I am affected by what happens, even though I live here.”

The singer has been vocal in recent years about his opposition to Monsanto, a chemical company specializing in genetically modified seeds, including the 2015 release of his album “The Monsanto Years.”

"These things have been banned throughout Europe and throughout the world,” said Young. “Why 38 countries banned GMOs; they didn't just label them. They're concerned, those governments, about the people that live in the country. They want to protect them."

Young will launch “Earth” with a extensive summer tour of European that begins June 5 in Glasgow, Scotland.

VIDEO: Linkin Park in the studio

Linkin Park are sharing video from the studio as they continue work on the follow-up to 2014’s “The Hunting Party.”

The footage shows Mike Shinoda reviewing the process of layering sounds with others in the room as they appear to be preparing for a song mix.

"We just started narrowing down to some of our favorite songs, and we’re starting to put our first 'final' vocals on them,” Shinoda shared recently. “As I listen through them, I feel like these songs are really personal and revealing. We have really poured our hearts into the words and melodies, and it’s starting to show as we approach recording the 'keeper' vocals.

“With that said, we’ve got a lot of material to choose from, and decided to get votes from all six of the guys in the band, to see which songs are rising to the top. We clearly have an album in there.”

“The Hunting Party” – the band’s sixth album – debuted at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200 with opening week sales of 110,000 copies.

Axl Rose performed his seventh concert with AC/DC on the Rock Or Bust tour in Hamburg, Germany on May 26 and video from the show is available.

The event at the city’s Volksparkstadion delivered a 23-song set that saw the return of “Riff Raff” from 1978’s “Powerage” to the encore after it was replaced in Prague on May 22 by another Bon Scott-era rarity making its first appearance since 1979, “Touch Too Much” from ”Highway To Hell.”

AC/DC recently extended their European tour with a newly-announced show in Dusseldorf, Germany on June 15

The concert at the city’s multi-functional football stadium Esprit Arena adds a 13th date to the spring run which features Rose stepping in to handle vocals in the absence of longtime member Brian Johnson.

AUDIO: Red Hot Chili Peppers premiere The Getaway title track

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are premiering the title track from their forthcoming album “The Getaway.”

Due June 17, the follow-up to 2011’s “I’m In You” marks the Los Angeles group’s first record in five years.

The group teamed up with producer Danger Mouse on the project, which saw mixing handled by Nigel Godrich.

The title tune is the second preview of the band’s 11th studio release following the lead single “Dark Necessities.”

Both tracks are offered as instant downloads with pre-orders of “The Getaway.”

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have resumed touring after singer Anthony Kiedis was hospitalized earlier this month with an intestinal flu which shut down a performance at a radio station festival in Los Angeles.

"It was a painful and sad thing to have to cancel shows, we don't really do that,” Kiedis told ET Canada. “I'd rather play deathly ill than not at all but in this particular instance I was starting to go down to the ground. I got some help and now I've got to figure things out."

"I think I had to get sick to take a look at myself and get to the causes and conditions of my overall health,” he adds. “I push pretty hard sometimes and I do take my health for granted on a certain level because I feel strong and capable. I surf most days and I like to charge, but every now and then, the body is like 'you're doing something wrong, either fix it or we're gonna let you know about it', and I think that my body let me know that I had to change my ways a little bit."

VIDEO: Ozzy Osbourne celebrates tram honour in Birmingham hometown

Ozzy Osbourne returned to his native Birmingham, England on Thursday to launch a new tram named after him.

The Irish Examiner reports the Black Sabbath rocker unveiled the tram in front of a packed crowd on Corporation Street in the city centre.

"It’s great to be here. Thank you very much,” Ozzy told the crowd. “We never thought when we started in 1968 that we’d be here. It’s been an incredible journey.

“Once a Brummie, always a Brummie,” he added. “When I was a kid there were trams in Birmingham and I always wondered why they stopped. Every time I come there’s something different. It takes me a minute or two to guess where I am. It changes all the time, it’s great.”

Asked by reporters if he would consider buying a tram, he said: “Not a tram, a crazy train maybe…”

Trams returned to Birmingham last December after a 60-year absence.

The tram-naming ceremony was organized by Centro, the delivery arm of the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority (ITA).

“Such an honour having @OzzyOsbourne onboard today!” tweeted Midland Metro.

Ozzy and Black Sabbath will continue their farewell tour with summer dates in Europe starting June 1 in Budapest, Hungary before returning to North America for more shows this fall.

Former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza cause of death confirmed

A cause of death has been confirmed in the passing of former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza, who died last Saturday at the age of 51.

Menza collapsed after suffering a heart attack during the third song of OHM's May 21 show at The Baked Potato in Studio City, California, and was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner has determined that hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease were the official cause of the drummer’s sudden passing.

The son of Buddy Rich's longtime jazz saxophonist Don Menza, Nick began his career as a session musician before he was recruited by then-Megadeth drummer Chuck Behler to serve as drum tech; after Behler left the band, leader Dave Mustaine asked Menza to join Megadeth in 1989.

Menza provided drums on four Megadeth studio albums, including their 1990 classic “Rust In Peace” and 1992's “Countdown To Extinction.”

Menza's tenure in Megadeth ended in 1998, when knee problems and a benign tumor forced him to leave the band's tour in support of 1997’s “Cryptic Writings.”

“The Megadeth family take care of each other, and expect to hear soon about an initiative to help Nick's children,” said Mustaine in his personal tribute to his former bandmate. “All of us in this community are connected, take care of yourself and your loved ones. My deepest condolences go out to Nick's family.”

AC/DC comment on possible future with Axl Rose

AC/DC guitarist Angus Young says the band is thrilled with Axl Rose’s performances and offers his thoughts on a possible future with the singer as the group reaches the halfway mark of their spring tour of Europe.

"He's doing very well,” Young tells Germany’s NDR.de. “I mean, under the situation that we had, it was very good that he volunteered and said, 'Hey, if I can help, let me try.' So he's been very good. And he had to learn a lot of songs very quickly, and he's done a great job."

"He’s done a fabulous job,” says bassist Cliff Williams. “And he's almost out of his chair now. He's mobile, and he's enjoying himself. It's been really good."

"His leg's repairing,” adds Angus, “so each show we've been doing he's been getting up and moving around a lot more. So it adds more to the show."

AC/DC launched the spring tour with Rose in Lisbon, Portugal on May 7 to rave reviews worldwide.

The Guns N’ Roses leader offered to assist the band after Brian Johnson was forced to step aside from live performances in March on the advice of doctors in order to prevent further damage to his hearing.

Rose is on board for AC/DC’s 13-date European spring tour and will rejoin the band sometime later this year for the to-be-rescheduled US Rock Or Bust dates.

As for Rose’s possible future with AC/DC beyond 2016, Angus says “We were committed to finishing this tour, so that's been our main goal. And Axl helping us....I know he's very excited; he keeps saying, can he do more?

“But we don't really know at the end how we will go from here. But we wanna get this tour, which we were committed to doing, we wanted to finish what we started."

Allman Brothers Band to reissue classic albums on vinyl

The Allman Brothers Band will reissue nine remastered classic albums on vinyl on July 22.

The project will present the group’s output from 1969 to 1979 on audiophile quality 180-gram vinyl, starting with an expanded 2LP edition of the band’s self-titled 1969 record featuring the original 1969 stereo mix and the 1973 "Beginnings" stereo mix.

“Live At Ludlow Garage: 1970” makes its debut in a triple-LP package presenting the complete concert for the first time, with 2LP sets each of 1971’s “At Fillmore East”, 1972’s “Eat A Peach” and 1976’s “Wipe The Window, Check The Oil, Dollar Gas” alongside single LPs each of “Idlewild South” (1970), “Brothers And Sisters” (1973), “Win, Lose Or Draw” (1975) and 1979’s “Enlightened Rogues”

Remastered by Kevin Reeves, all nine LP packages feature faithfully replicated original album artwork and will be available individually and in a Limited Edition 15LP Collection with exclusive extras in wooden peach crate.

The box set offers exclusive collectable extras including a half-stack amplifier-shaped 8GB USB stick with all nine remastered albums as downloadable 44.1kHz 16-bit uncompressed AIFF audio files; four double-sided posters of key art or photos from the albums; nine magnets featuring each album’s cover art; nine guitar picks and buttons with key art or photos from each album; a custom deck of Allman Brothers Band playing cards; a trucker/snapback-style hat; a turntable mat and a microfiber cleaning cloth.

The box set is limited to 500 copies worldwide and is available exclusively at udiscovermusic.com

July 22 will also see the nine albums available for download in high definition digital audio (192kHz/24-bit and 96kHz/24-bit).

The Allman Brothers Band formed in Jacksonville, FL in 1969 with a sonic mix of blues, jazz, soul and country while building a following from electric live performances featuring jam band-style improvisation with extended instrumental passages.

The group survived the losses of guitarist Duane Allman in 1971 and bassist Berry Oakley in 1972 in its first decade through constant touring and regular album releases.

Personnel changes continued throughout their career and, after 45 years together, The Allman Brothers Band performed its final show on October 28, 2014 at the Beacon Theater in New York City.
