Metallica update status of new album
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich shared an update on the status of the band’s new album following his appearance inducting Deep Purple at the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony in New York on Friday.
“The record is well on its way,” Ulrich tells Rolling Stone. “It may come out any century now, actually. There's a saying: where there's life, there's hope. I’d say it's mostly done.
“There are all these other responsibilities that have to be taken care of. Life in Metallica these days is not only about making a record; it's about these things and we played a show at AT&T Park and he does this, I do this. We have all these sort of different things that we turn to. But the record gets worked on where there's absolutely nothing else going on.”
Metallica have been juggling live dates with studio sessions over much of the past year as they continue working with producer Greg Fidelman on the follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”
“In all seriousness, it’s actually what we like,” explains Ulrich. “It works for us. It's not just record, tour, record, tour. We like to do. We’re doing the Record Store Day next week and doing all that stuff. There's lots of stuff going on all the time, but the record is almost done.”
Metallica has a busy week ahead: on April 15, they will release multiple remastered versions of their 1983 debut “Kill ‘Em All” and 1984’s “Ride The Lightning” as part of a massive catalog reissue campaign and, on April 16, the 2016 Record Store Day Ambassadors will perform live at Berkeley, CA's legendary Rasputin Music in celebration of the ninth annual event.
Record Store Day will also see Metallica issue a special release of “Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Metallica! - Live at Le Bataclan. Paris, France - June 11th, 2003.”
Record Store Day and independent record stores will be donating proceeds from the project’s release to victims of the attacks in Paris last November via Fondation de France's Give For France charity.
