Metallica to open new stadium in Minneapolis
Metallica will headline the first rock concert at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, August 20 as part of the opening weekend festivities.
The new home of the Minnesota Vikings will host a triple-bill with guests Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat prior to the proper kick-off to the new NFL season.
“We had such an amazing time playing in our hometown stadium the night before the Super Bowl,” says Metallica, “that when asked we couldn’t say ‘no’ to another chance to be a part of a very special weekend. We’ll be hitting the stage for the first ever rock show at the stadium as part of the opening weekend festivities featuring Luke Bryan the Friday before.”
Metallica will be offering a pre-sale to the Met Club members beginning March 22 at 8 AM, CST (running through March 24 at 10 PM). Both Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat will offer pre-sales to their fans beginning March 22nd at 12 noon running through March 24th at 10 PM.
General public tickets will go on sale on Friday, March 25 at 10:00 AM CDT via Ticketmaster.
Metallica are currently in the studio working on the follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”
Guitarist Kirk Hammett recently revealed the identity of the producer of the band’s work-in-progress new album.
“We’re pretty much doing it with Greg Fidelman,” says Hammett. “He is in the mix. As far as what the final outcome will be, I don’t know. We have not brought in any other producer and it looks extremely unlikely we’d bring one in this late into the project.”
Fidelman previously worked with Metallica as the recording and mixing engineer on 2008's “Death Magnetic” alongside producer Rick Rubin, and 2011’s collaboration with Lou Reed, “Lulu”; his extensive resume includes projects with Black Sabbath, Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slayer and more.
