Metallica guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett will perform the national anthem prior to game 5 of the NBA Finals.
“We're incredibly lucky to have another winning team here in the Bay Area as the Golden State Warriors took the NBA Western Conference title and are facing the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals!,” says the band. “By now we're guessing that you've noticed that we like to support our home sports teams, so to continue in that tradition James and Kirk will be on hand at Game 5 on Sunday, June 14.”
The NBA Finals are currently tied at 2 games apiece.
The guitarists last performed the national anthem as part of their appearance at the 2015 X Games in Austin, Texas on Saturday, June 6.
Metallica are currently on a break from the road after playing a series of festival dates in Europe this past month; the band’s next scheduled show is at Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 1.
