Metallica have released audio of the live debut of their 1997 track, “The Unforgiven II”, as performed at the Rock Im Revier festival in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on Friday.
The tune – which originally appeared on their 7th album, “Reload” – was previously played only once before - during the band’s December 8, 1997 appearance on the Billboard Music Awards.
The sequel to “The Unforgiven” from 1991’s self-titled album was later followed by “The Unforgiven III” on 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”

The group will perform at Sonisphere Italy on June 2 and Rock In Vienna on June 4 before returning Stateside to headline the 2015 X Games in Austin, Texas on June 6.
Following this short run of shows, Metallica will perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 1.
