The Foo Fighters performed the Thin Lizzy classic “Jailbreak” during their show at Slane Castle in Slane, Ireland on Saturday.
“If I could be in any other rock band in the world,” began Dave Grohl, “it would be Thin Lizzy. What a band.
“We’re gonna try something we’ve never done before and we want to do it for you, special, because we don’t do it all the time. Just tonight.”
“Jailbreak” was the title track to Thin Lizzy’s 1976 album. Considered the group’s US breakthrough, it featured their signature song, “The Boys Are Back In Town” alongside “Cowboy Song”, “Emerald” and “Running Back”, among others.
“We just learned that an hour and a half ago,” Grohl revealed after the performance.
The Slane stop is part of the Foo Fighters European tour in support of “Sonic Highways”, which launched May 25 and wraps up at the Glastonbury Festival on June 26.
The band will then kick off a North American run on July 4 at Washington’s RFK Stadium.
