Progressive rockers Yes will release two live collections of newly-discovered recordings from their acclaimed 1972 world tour on May 19.
The material will be available as a 14-disc box set entitled “Progeny: Seven Shows From Seventy-Two”, as well as a 10-song, 2-disc set, “Highlights From Seventy-Two.”
Yes were recorded in concert over 7 shows in the fall of 1972 as part of a tour in support of their 5th studio album, “Close To The Edge.”
The run was Yes’ first with drummer Alan White after he stepped in to replace Bill Bruford, who appeared on “Close To The Edge” before leaving to join King Crimson. White only had three days to learn the band’s live show before his first night on stage with singer Jon Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire and keyboardist Rick Wakeman.
Recorded three months into the tour, these performances capture how quickly the new line-up came together musically as they navigate hits like “Roundabout,” and complex pieces like “And You and I.”
