Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice will be giving free drumming lessons as part of the UK’s national Learn to Play Day on Saturday, March 21.
The flagship event of the UK’s Music for All charity invites the general public to visit one of the many participating venues in the country and have a free “taster” lesson on a musical instrument.
Get Reading reports Paice will be at DrumWright on Headley Road East in Woodley between 10am and 5pm on the 21st to offer a free introductory drum lessons to anyone interested.
For more experienced drummers wishing to sharpen their skills, Paice – who has played with Deep Purple and Whitesnake – will be in store at midday. The rocker will demonstrate tips and techniques, including the one-handed drum roll for which he is renowned.
In addition to Paice, other high profile musicians participating in Learn To Play Day include Jools Holland, Johnny Marr of The Smiths, David Bowie guitarist Gerry Leonard, Skunk Annasie guitarist Ace and Usher drummer Aaron Spears, among others.
