Pink Floyd set Spotify record

Pink Floyd have set a new Spotify record with “Allons-y (1)”, a track from their new album, “The Endless River.”

Spotify reports the tune has became the most viral song on Spotify worldwide.

The track was released four days ahead of the full album, which itself was streamed more than 12 million times worldwide during its first week on the service – including 3.15 million times in the US alone.

Spotify also reports that Pink Floyd draws a remarkably young audience given their heritage as a classic rock band: over 60 percent of its audience is under 35, with strongest listening among 18-22 year olds, and 80 percent of its playlisters under the age of 34.

“The Endless River” recently debuted at No. 1 in the band’s native UK and No. 3 on the US Billboard 200.

The project features material recorded by guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright during sessions for 1994’s “The Division Bell”, and serves as the band’s tribute to Wright, who died from cancer in 2008 at the age of 65.
