Metallica have confirmed headlining slots at two UK festivals as part of their summer 2015 European tour.
The band will play the Reading Festival on August 29 and the companion Leeds Festival on August 30.
“It's been seven long years and we can't wait to hit the stage for one of the longest running, most historic rock festivals,” said the group.
The UK shows follow previously-announced slots at three European festivals, including Der Ring - Grüne Hölle Rock at Nürburg, Germany and Munich’s Rockavaria Festival – both running May 29-31 – and Vienna, Austria’s Rock In Vienna on June 4.
Metallica will launch the summer 2015 run at the inaugural Rock In Rio USA festival in Las Vegas next spring.
Rock in Rio will celebrate its 30th anniversary and the debut of Rock in Rio USA in Las Vegas on May 8-9 and May 15-16, 2015.
The event will mark Metallica’s return to the Rock in Rio festival following performances at Rock in Rio Lisboa in 2004, 2008 and 2012 (which featured a performance of 1991’s “Metallica” album), Rock in Rio Madrid in 2010, as well as in the fest’s home city of Rio in 2011 and 2013.
