Pearl Jam performed a tribute to the late John Lennon on what would have been his 74th birthday on October 9.
The band’s show at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska delivered covers of Lennon’s “Imagine” and the Beatles' "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" to mark the occasion.
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has just released his own cover of “Imagine.”
The singer performed the song during a solo show at the Super Bock Super Rock festival in Portugal on July 18, and he’s now making it available to assist Heartbeat: Amplifying Youth Voices, an organization that provides opportunities and spaces for young Israeli and Palestinian musicians to work together and amplify their voices to influence the world around them.
Vedder debuted “Imagine” in Portugal after receiving criticism over anti-war comments he made during a Pearl Jam concert at Milton Keynes in England in July.
Pearl Jam are in the middle of a fall US tour that will wrap up in Denver, Colorado on October 22.
The band will then perform at Neil Young’s 28th Annual Bridge School Benefit concerts in California.
The October 25/26 weekend event at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View will see appearances by Soundgarden, Florence + The Machine, Tom Jones, Norah Jones, Band Of Horses and additional guests.
