The Foo Fighters teamed up with guitarist Rick Nielsen to perform the Cheap Trick classic, “Stiff Competition”, on The Late Show with David Letterman Thursdday.
With Dave Grohl on drums, Taylor Hawkins handled lead vocals for the performance of the track from 1978’s “Heaven Tonight”, paying tribute to the Rockford, Illinois band by dressing in a Robin Zander look from the period.
The Foos are promoting the October 17 premiere of the 8-part HBO series, “Sonic Highways”, which chronicles the making of the band’s forthcoming album of the same name, out November 10.
