AC/DC: Malcolm Young’s family confirms dementia reports
The family of AC/DC’s Malcolm Young have confirmed reports that the guitarist has been diagnosed with dementia.
"Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy," his family said in a statement to People magazine.
A recent report out of Australia quoted sources connected to the Young family that the rocker has been moved into full-time care in a nursing home facility in Sydney's eastern suburbs specializing in dementia.
AC/DC recently announced Malcolm’s retirement from the band he started with brother Angus in November of 1973.
On April 16, AC/DC first issued a statement regarding the band’s status and future in the wake of rumors surrounding Malcolm’s health and the band’s possible retirement.
“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health,” posted the band. “Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.”
“In light of this news,” they added, “AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.”
AC/DC recently announced that they will release a new album, “Rock Or Bust”, on December 2.
Malcolm and Angus’ nephew, Stevie, handled rhythm guitar duties on the record and will join the group for a world tour next year.
