Sammy Hagar took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Sunday and nominated the Van Halen brothers, Eddie and Alex, to participate in the charitable event.
“I accept Joe Satriani’s challenge, but I’m gonna write a big, fat check,” said Hagar, “and being a California person, I’m gonna conserve water and jump in this ice cold lake. Eddie and Alex Van Halen, I challenge you to do the same.”
Hagar donated $2,500 to the ALS viral video campaign in the process.

Hagar recently completed a summer tour and is now gearing up for his annual October birthday bash concerts at the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Opened in 1990, the club was originally a partnership between Hagar and his former Van Halen bandmates. Initially a financial failure, Hagar bought out the Van Halen brothers’ stake and, under new management, turned the club into a favorite destination spot for rockers while creating the original home for his Cabo Wabo Tequila brand.
Hagar last appeared with Van Halen on a 2004 reunion tour, which was put together to support the band’s greatest hits package, “The Best of Both Worlds.”
Original Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth returned to the lineup in 2007; the group released a new album, “A Different Kind Of Truth”, in 2012 and are reportedly working on new music.
