Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood accepted Chuck Leavell’s invitation and took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Sunday.
Wood went on to nominate Rod Stewart, actor Woody Harrelson and his son, Tyrone Wood.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is surpassing all expectations as it continues to go viral. As of August 21, The ALS Association has received $41.8 million in donations compared to $2.1 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 21). These donations have come from existing donors and 739,275 new donors to The Association.
The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) – known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease – on every front. By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through Certified Treatment Centers of Excellence, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.

Last month, Wood and the Rolling Stones wrapped up their 14 On Fire European tour.
The band return to the road this fall to play Australia and New Zealand, dates that were rescheduled from this spast spring following the sudden passing of Mick Jagger’s longtime girlfriend, L’Wren Scott.
The first show of the fall leg will see the Stones open the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, Australia on October 25.
