A new Dutch TV documentary, “How Metallica raised hell in De Westereen”, reveals the story behind the band’s first headline show in Europe thirty years ago.
Produced by Dutch public broadcaster Omrop Fryslân TV, the 30-minute program shares a behind-the-scenes look at the show Metallica did in the small Dutch village Zwaagwesteinde (De Westereen) on June 9, 1984.
Featuring new interviews with guitarist Kirk Hammett and drummer Lars Ulrich, viewers will see the story about the time that Metallica was still an unknown band and heavy metal was something completely new to everybody in Holland.
That Zwaagwesteinde gig 30 years ago was the first Metallica European headline show ever, thanks to a mistake of the local venue owner.
Metallica recently completed their “By Request” European tour and will perform at Heavy Montreal on August 9.
