VIDEO: Rush receive honorary degrees from Nipissing University

Rush members Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart received the first-ever honorary Doctorate Of Music degrees from Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario on Thursday.

The June 12 ceremony saw Rush and six other Canadians honored as the university celebrates the 2014 graduating class.

Lee and Lifeson shared videotaped acceptance speeches for the event after they were unable to attend the event in person: their plane was turned away at the local airport due to unsafe weather conditions early Thursday morning.

Geddy dedicated his degree to his mother Mary Weinrib and her inspiring story of perseverance.

Rush recently released their 1974 self-titled debut album as an LP Box Set reissue to mark its 40th anniversary.

“Rush ReDISCovered” features the band’s debut re-mastered at Abbey Road studios by Sean McGee, who has been responsible for all recent Beatles vinyl re-masters.
