California Breed producer Dave Cobb talks about singer/bassist Glenn Hughes’ music history in the latest behind the scenes video package about the making of the band’s self-titled debut album, due May 20.
“I’ve known about Glenn from the Trapeze stuff,” says Cobb of the former Deep Purple rocker. “My favorite era of music has always been maybe ‘65 to ‘73 and he was there. It was crazy to hear the stories: he knew my favorite bands, he was hanging around them, he played all the legendary places and recorded in legendary studios. I mean, God, you could make a freakin’ reality show on that guy and the things he’s been through and done and who he is now. It’s amazing.”
Hughes lengthy rock resume includes stints in Trapeze, Deep Purple, Hughes/Thrall, Gary Moore, and others.
California Breed is a new band formed by Hughes and Jason Bonham from the ashes of supergroup Black Country Communion; the pair are joined by guitarist Andrew Watt in the lineup.
“California Breed” was recorded at Cobb's Nashville studio and features equal co-writing credits among the three-man lineup.
The band recently released the video for the album’s lead single, “Sweet Tea.”
