Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic appeared as guests on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, on the eve of their induction into the 2014 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
The pair shared stories about bandmate Kurt Cobain, the early days of Nirvana, working with Paul McCartney, and more.
"It's bittersweet because our our friend Kurt has been gone for 20 years, so it's a good way to remember him," said Novoselic. "He should be here."
The bassist discussed how he met Cobain in high school.
"He was this weird kid, and I was a weird kid,” Krist explained. “We thought the world was weird and so we gravitated toward each other."
This past weekend marked the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s passing. The rocker died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Seattle home on April 5, 1994; his body was discovered three days later by an electrician who had arrived to do some work on the property.
Nirvana will be inducted by R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe during the ceremony at New York’s Barclays Center; other honorees include KISS, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, and The E Street Band.
The band hinted that Joan Jett will join them for their performance at the induction event, posting a photo of their gear – including Jett’s easily-identifiable guitar – on the Facebook pages of both Nirvana and the Foo Fighters.
