Robert Plant with LHS co-founder Mike Peters of The Alarm |
A potentially lifesaving match was located at a Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters concert in support of Love Hope Strength, an international, music-centric cancer charity dedicated to saving lives, one concert at a time.
Throughout the 2013 tour, Robert Plant fans got on the list in support of Love Hope Strength to be marrow donors as they entered his shows. Now, it has been revealed that a potentially life-saving match was located at one of last summer's shows.
“Knowing that each one of our gigs has the potential to save lives is very humbling,” said Robert. “LHS is doing a great job out there in educating and raising awareness for this type of cancer. More people need to realize how simple and painless it is to get on the register and help save a life.“
LHS was founded in 2007 by leukemia survivors Mike Peters of the Welsh rock band The Alarm and James Chippendale, President of Ascend Insurance Brokerage.
Robert Plant and musicians around the world are literally saving lives at their concerts by allowing Love Hope Strength to register their fans, free of charge, to the national marrow registry. Registration takes a simple cheek swab and the completion of a consent form.
Thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases depend on finding matching donors who can save their life. Patients need donors who are a close genetic match. Even with a registry of millions, 6 out of 10 patients never receive the lifesaving transplant they need.
Donors of all ethnicities are needed if we are going to change this. At Love Hope Strength, and with our partners at Delete Blood Cancer, we have registered over 55,000 marrow donors at concerts and festivals around the globe resulting in over 861 potentially life-saving matches for patients in need of transplants.

Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters will release a new album this year, and support it with a European tour that starts June 8 at the PinkPop Festival in Landgraaf, Holland; the band will first perform at the New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival on April 26.
